Why, Elon Musk claims that Twitter will offer publishers a per-article charging option starting in May

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, announced on Saturday that his social media network would soon introduce a pay-per-article model for news stories, maybe as early as next month. Users might be able to access premium media material with such a business model without committing to a long-term subscription.

Elon Musk revealed on Saturday that Twitter will soon permit media publishers to charge consumers per item. By using the new function, media publishers will be able to offer customers access to articles for a one-time purchase rather than requiring them to sign up for a full membership.

This platform will enable media publishers to charge customers on a per-article basis with a single click when it launches next month, Musk tweeted. This permits consumers to pay a higher per-article pricing for sporadic article reading when they don't want to join up for a monthly membership.

Musk believes that readers and media publishers will benefit equally from the new Twitter function.

There are still several unanswered questions regarding the impending service, including the commission Twitter would take from each transaction. No information has been provided concerning the feature's formal launch date or the accounts and media sources that will be eligible for it.

Since he paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter last year, Musk has claimed in the past that he feels "under constant attack" from the general public. The tech tycoon has come under fire for, among other things, unbanning Donald Trump's account again and ending Twitter's old verification system.

Musk discussed his contentious purchase of the social media site with Bill Maher on "Real Time With Bill Maher" on Friday.

In response to Maher's question, Musk replied, "I think we need to be very cautious about anything that is anti-meritocratic and anything that results in the suppression of free speech." So those are the two 'awake mind virus' features that I believe are exceedingly harmful. You shouldn't question anything since questioning itself is terrible. Cancel culture would be practically synonymous.

Because Twitter resembles a virtual town square, he said, "it's important that there be both the reality and perception of trust for a wide variety of viewpoints."

While Musk did not directly address the debate surrounding his Twitter Blue programme, which charges users a monthly fee in exchange for verification checkmarks, he did claim that "dramatic action" was necessary for the platform to avoid going out of business.

"I believe that things have currently stabilised fairly well. After being acquired, it was quickly heading towards bankruptcy, so I had to take immediate action. No other option existed, claimed Musk.

The response to Musk's declaration has been parted, for certain clients of the virtual entertainment stage expressing that Twitter is getting more costly with its rising number of paid administrations. Others, on the other hand, were pleased with the announcement and pointed out that it makes more sense to only pay for the articles that readers want to read than to commit to a significantly more expensive news publication subscription.

Musk is trying to get creators to use Twitter more by announcing the pay-per-article feature. Musk has been empowering makers overall to adapt their substance with Twitter Memberships, promising that Twitter will save none of the cash for Memberships for the initial a year.
