Why DOLLAR CONTINUES DOWNWARD SLIDE AGAINST RUPEES.

KARACHI: The US dollar continued to depreciate against the rupee on Wednesday after banks and stock exchanges opened after a long weekend, ARY NEWS reported. According to forex dealers, the dollar shed Rs 2.13 to trade at Rs 221.91 in the interbank market, while banks sold the US dollar at Rs 222.75. - Advertisement - In the open market, the dollar fell by Rs 2 and is trading between Rs 218 and 220.

On Friday, the US dollar continued to decline for a fifth consecutive day against the rupee, with the dollar falling to around Rs 16 in the interbank market on the back of the IMF's assurance to release a $1.17 billion tranche. In the interbank market today, the US dollar lost Rs 2.11 to trade at Rs 224.04, while banks are selling the dollar at Rs 225.50, according to forex dealers. In the open market, the dollar traded between 220 and 222 rupees. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has confirmed that Pakistan has achieved all the targets set for the revival of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF). Speaking exclusively to ARY News, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative in Islamabad, Esther Perez Ruiz said that Pakistan has achieved all the financial targets set by the fund and the latest action was completed on July 31 with the extension of petrol tax. Esther Perez hoped Pakistan would take steps to close the funding gap by the time the board meets.

The rupee continued to free fall against the US dollar in the interbank market early Friday, however, it reversed second-half losses on reports that COAS, Qamar, Bajwa, had approached the US to play a role in the immediate release of a $1.2 billion tranche. Earlier, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) attributed the exchange rate change of 11 rupees in just two days to a "market-determined exchange rate system" in which current account balances, news and domestic uncertainty contribute to daily currency swings.
