Why does IVF fail with Good Embryos? - Know the Real Reason Behind It

There is a lot of information about in-vitro fertilization (IVF) available to the general public now that has made it more accessible but there are still some lesser-known aspects of treatment. People often think that IVF is the cure for all infertility and that there is an immediate guarantee of success if one uses this treatment. However, this is not true. Even the best IVF center in Gurgaon cannot guarantee success in IVF, even though it is better than most other fertility centers in the country. On average, about 30-40% of couples who receive this treatment can have a baby. Why is that? This is because there are many factors involved in making the IVF cycle successful and some of them are not under human control.

So, if you are planning to get treatment or are late and you fail, here are some of the causes of failure that you should be aware of.

Some common reasons for IVF failure

• Egg loss is a common cause; sometimes, even ovulation medications fail.

• Poor egg rate is another possible cause

• Low sperm count also reduces the chances of pregnancy

• Poor sperm quality (low motility, unmodified sperm, or damaged sperm) can cause problems (you can take a sperm test in Gurgaon to check most of these problems)

• Poor fetal status or improper fetal selection can lead to premature miscarriage

• Poor laboratory conditions can lead to weakening or even death of embryos before implantation

• Indirect and improper ovulation and/or implantation of 2 serious fetal errors in IVF can cause the cycle to fail;

implantation of the fetus outside the uterus can lead to an ectopic pregnancy which will eventually lead to miscarriage.

• A woman's age is an important factor, those under the age of 35 have a 50% chance of success and those over 42 have a 4% chance of becoming pregnant.

• An unhealthy lifestyle can also lead to IVF failure

• About 10% of IVF failures are caused by unknown causes

To avoid most of these problems, you should choose an experienced physician and the best IUI center in Gurgaon. However, there is another issue that some people face, their doctor told them that the fetus is healthy but they could not get pregnant. Let's see why this is possible.

Can IVF fail even with a good embryo?

Although a ‘good’ fetus is essential for continued pregnancy, it does not always guarantee IVF success. This is a sad fact to digest but it can happen for 3 reasons. One, as noted above, improper implantation of a healthy embryo will result in IVF failure. Second, the fetus that appears to be ‘good’ was thus declared by the embryologist based on a morphological mark that may be misleading as the external environment may not present quality problems. Sometimes, an embryo has a chromosomal abnormality that cannot be detected based on its external appearance and requires special testing.

The third reason is that the uterus does not accept it. Acceptance may be due to a condition such as endometriosis, fibroids, etc., or it may be the result of overactive cells that cause the uterus to invade the embryo. Both of these conditions lead to premature abortions or transplant failure (which, in the case of more than one occasion, is referred to as ‘recurrent failure’).

How do ensure IVF success after having failed before?

Most couples will experience difficulties in their first IVF cycle, some may need 3 to 5 cycles to get pregnant. But whatever the reasons for previous failed IVF cycles, you can still be optimistic about the future. You should talk to your doctor about what went wrong. They may suggest various tests such as laparoscopy, pre-implanted genetic tests (PGS), endometrial receptivity assay (ERA), sperm DNA sequencing tests, etc., to confirm the cause of the failure. After that, you will need to work with your doctor to avoid those (or those) errors or manage the underlying conditions before moving on to the next IVF cycle. Also, it is best to take a break between the two cycles, it will give your body and you valuable time to recover from previous failed attempts and be ready for the next. Lastly, do not overdo it as anxiety can reduce your chances of getting pregnant. Just relax and try again, if it is helpful, people are known to get pregnant naturally after a few failed IVF cycles.
