Alzheimer's is a disease that robs you of memory. Even the things we do every day will be erased from our memories. Dr. The name Alzheimer's comes from a doctor named Alois Alzheimer's.
What is Alzheimer's disease?
Alzheimer's disease causes about 70% of dementia. Dementia, a condition commonly found in people over 65, can lead to dementia when it affects their daily lives. It is the eighth-most deadly disease in the world. Know dementia, know Alzheimer's is the theme of this year's World Alzheimer's Day.
Why does Alzheimer's disease occur?
Alzheimer's is a condition in which the brain cells are damaged over time. Two types of proteins accumulate in the cells of the brain, causing the cells to decompose. The first to get is the amyloid beta. It accumulates inside the neuron, the brain cell. Tau protein accumulates outside the neuron. Ongoing drug trials are focusing on how to prevent the accumulation of these proteins. But only this disease can be prevented.
Reasons
There are two leading causes of Alzheimer's disease, both modifiable and non-modifiable. Lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, alcoholism, anxiety, high blood pressure, diabetes, malnutrition, and lack of education are all subject to change or modification. Non-modifiable factors such as age, family history, and demographics
Disease spread
There are 55 million patients worldwide. There are 5 million patients in India. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030 there will be 78 million patients worldwide .......
Symptoms
There are five stages to Alzheimer's disease.
1) Preclinical stage
It is found in the brain 20 years before the onset of symptoms. Amyloid can be detected by a PET scan and a brain test.
2) Minimum Cognitive Impairment
Symptoms of minor memory loss may appear at this stage. Symptoms include sudden forgetfulness and forgetfulness. But it does not affect their daily life, social life, or work. About 12% of people with this condition are at risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Exercise and control of stress, stress, BP, sugar, and cholesterol can help prevent Alzheimer's disease to some extent.
3) Mild Alzheimer's disease
Symptoms include forgetfulness, difficulty finding words, difficulty remembering names, and difficulty planning things. This is also the early stage of Alzheimer's.
4) Moderate stage Alzheimer's
The disease can include forgetting personal things, changes in behavior when interacting with people, confusion over time, suspicion, and changes in personality.
5) Severe Alzheimer's disease
Symptoms include difficulty walking, sitting, eating, uncontrollable defecation, and difficulty talking to people. Pneumonia is more likely to occur at this stage. Sometimes the patient may be completely bedridden.
Treatment
See a neurologist as soon as symptoms appear. There is currently no complete cure for Alzheimer's disease. Studies for that are ongoing. Studies are mainly on amyloid protein and taurine protein. Medications are currently available to reduce symptoms for some time. Non-drug treatment can help alleviate the patient's symptoms. Memory chess and puzzle games are good. Music therapy, exercise, aromatherapy, and phototherapy are also beneficial. Behavioral treatment is effective in patients with depression.
Advice and support for patients, caregivers, and families are available through the Alzheimer's Association's online support group.
