Why Do We Celebrate Guru Poornima?
Namaste friends, I am Akash, and on this auspicious occasion of Guru Poornima, I would like to discuss the significance of Gurus in Indian culture.
The literal meaning of guru is someone who eliminates darkness or ignorance. Traditionally, guru refers to a spiritual teacher who has deep knowledge of Dharma and can guide their students to the path of spiritual progress.
Imagine if you were driving to a faraway destination, you could get there without math or GPS, but the time and effort involved will be a lot more.
A guru is like a GPS for the spiritual journey. You can get to your destination without the help of a guru. But with their help, it gets easier because they have walked the path.
Already, the guru, Poornima, is dedicated to the spiritual gurus for showing the part of wisdom to their followers.
It was the day when the first guru was born; Adi yogi or Shiva became Adi guru and decided to import spiritual knowledge to his followers.

Back in the day, it was common practice for students to leave the comforts of their home and live in a Gurukul to learn from the Gurus.
In the early phases of their lives, everyone, regardless of their family background, would sleep on the ground, eat simple food, practice yoga, meditate, and lord other life skills in Auto deliver thermic modest and fulfills life.
In fact, there is a popular Sanskrit phrase in our culture called "ma pita guru Ziva," which means first comes the mother, then father guru, and then God.
Most of us do not participate in the traditional Gurukul system in the modern world, and getting access to an enlightened group can also be very challenging.
However, we can still take some steps to begin our Dharma journey, just like being curious and having an open mind is the first good step for learning in school having a calm mind and focusing on the present is an important step.
In our journey toward spiritual growth, this state of calm and self-awareness is best achieved through the regular practice of meditation.
