India wholly believes that the Vastu system is designed to provide a well-balanced and fortunate life for people. So, everyone who wants to enjoy contented moments for their whole life does follow this system as a protection for their future.
But don’t ask me whether following this system of Vastu shastra make people’s life happy? From my point of view, I can tell you that not following this system might lead you to some trouble. I’ve just shared some facts about Vastu shastra that could be linked with modern science in this article.
Generally, Vastu shastra is considered a set of codes or bye-laws by the common public to be followed during any construction. This is followed as an ancient tradition because its origin is purely based on Vedas. But according to modern science, the term Vastu shastra can be explained simply as ‘the energy contained in any built form.’ The Energy that can be Contained in a Built form can be Positive, Negative, and Neutral.
The whole of India commonly calls it Vastu shastra, but it also has its own regional names. For instance, in Kerala, it is called “Thatcher Sasthiram”; in Tamil Nadu, it is called “Manai Ilakanam or Manai Sasthiram.”
The Vastu shastra is provided for every type of construction. But it is more seriously followed in residential kind of constructions. There are regulations for constructing temples too. Vaguely, Vastu gives us the position for each room in a space to make a whole built form. Certain measurements are provided for each room that has to be followed.
The positioning of each room in the space is given by the cardinal directions. Currently, the Vastu has been followed for the living room, pooja room, bedroom, kitchen, and not for every room in residence.
Generally, the philosophy of Vastu is based on the factors 5 natural elements, 9 planets (Navagraha), 12 zodiac signs, 8 cardinal directions. In Vastu, all the above-mentioned facts are coordinated with a building and a human life. So Vastu sets the rhythm of nature into our habitat.
This example I have mentioned here is just an analogical perspective from myself. In Vastu, there is always a preference for the central courtyard. It is because the central area of any plot is considered a ‘Brahma sthanam,’ which could be left open. In recent times we prefer central courtyard which can benefit us with a good amount of ventilation inside our home. In this case, it is not compulsory to place only a courtyard in the central space, but it is a preferable option, according to Vastu. Hence, I’ve compared the central courtyard in both the science we have come across.
So, in my opinion, Vastu is nothing but an old science or bye-laws according to nature and its energy. This is the reason why Vastu shastra is still being followed by Indians. Though it followed as a myth, it also has its own hidden science.
