Why do guys like big boobs and hourglass figures?

Physical characteristics, such as breast size and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), function as important features used by human males to assess female attractiveness. Males supposedly pay attention to these features because they serve as cues to fecundity and health. Here,

We document that women with higher breast-to-underbreast ratio (large breasts) and women with relatively low WHR (narrow waists) have higher fecundity as assessed by precise measurements of daily levels of 17-beta-oestradiol (E2) and progesterone. Furthermore, women who are characterized by both narrow waists and large breasts have 26% higher mean E2 and 37% higher mean mid-cycle E2 levels than women from three groups with other combinations of body-shape variables, i.e. low WHR with small breasts and high WHR with either large or small breasts. Such gains in hormone levels among the preferred mates may lead to a substantial rise in the probability of conception, thus providing a significant fitness benefit.

If big breasts, hourglass figure and big butts, evolutionary-wise, are attractive to men, then why don’t the vast majority of women have the hourglass figure and have small/flat butts and breasts?

I think others have said this—the premise is false. Men are attracted to curves. They’re attracted to breasts, the existence of them, and the mere illusion of hips.

Breasts are the signal of reproductive maturity, since we walk on two legs (and wear clothes). While most men have some sort of reproductive preference, I think most men will tell you that they just like boobs. Boobs are good. Small boobs, large boobs, round boobs, triangle boobs, all boobs fit the bill.

It’s pretty rare that a woman has a completely straight torso. Most women, who went through puberty normally, who are not overweight, who are also not overly muscular, are slimmer at the waist. Even if a woman has a 24-inch waist, it’s pretty likely that her hips are bigger than that. Pre-pubescent girls do not have that feature.

Your premise is wrong or you have wrong or outdated informations.

The only thing that science show from several studies on human men all around the globe, is that human men are attracted to:

  • Symmetrical features. Especially symmetric face.
  • Waist-hip ratio at around 0.7.
  • The presence of breasts, preferably firm.

Every other feature changes between cultures and time periods. Of course men tend to be attracted to the features that their culture and time period have told them is attractive, but that is not biologically rooted… other than the human yearning to fit in and be like everybody else.

It is generally not the women who need to worry about finding someone to have children with. A quick look at the human genome implies that most of us have about twice as many female ancestors as male ancestors. In other words, about half the men never have children, while almost all women who could have children, did have children, up until just recently. It has been, and still is, extremely easy for a woman to find some guy willing to try help her make babies.

Of course, getting a pregnancy started is just the beginning. In order to influence the gene pool, you need a bit more. Like your baby not dying during the pregnancy, or during childbirth, or during breastfeeding (or lack thereof). Not accidentally killing your baby. Not accidentally letting your baby be killed by playing with fire, water, rocks, snakes, wolves and whatnot. Having a husband around may help, but sharing him with another woman or two is not necessarily a bad idea since they can look after your toddler while you sleep, if you do the same for them. Generally, having an extended family / tribe / village around you is more important than monopolizing a man.

Notice that very few of these things require huge boobs. Even a big butt can be skipped if you have a steady and sufficiently varied food supply. As long as you have enough of the nutrients for your baby to survive and thrive, there is no point in taking an excess with you into your old age.

Some degree of “hourglass” shape is actually the normal condition for women of fertile age, and this is why men are drawn to it, not the other way around. It is a sign that the hormone balance is within the margin where there’s a good chance of living offspring. But you certainly don’t need to look like a movie star to have babies, and lots of them. Especially not if you are a woman.
