Why did I decide to leave Notion?

Every YouTube user speaks ill of Notion, the app. YouTube is full of production tips, tutorials, and videos on how to get the most out of it. I will discuss why I decided to go ahead and find a better production system that works for me as someone who has used the system for a few years.

I started using Notion in the last year of my undergraduate university studies. It was so important to me that I used it for my master's degree. Eventually, though, I decided to leave it at that. What is the meaning of this? There were several reasons, all covered in depth in this article. But first, let's look at the bright side ...

What is this about Notion that attracts me?

This section of the post entitled "Reasons why I do not use the idea" may surprise you. However, it will be explained later in this post.

Being organized is one of the most important things in my life. That’s why I rely on a strong position to help me stay organized; no, I'm not referring to the Apple ecosystem, which, by the way, I can't live without. I'm talking about ecology of production here. I need an ecosystem that allows me to track the progress of my projects, such as Tech With Dom, as well as my professional and community life. I prefer to live an orderly life; just who I am, and I can't explain why.

Anyway, Notion is one of those apps that helps people like me stay organized. The options are limitless! To complement my speech notes, powerpoints, and even take notes, I have used it as my content management system. I used it to edit my blog posts, YouTube videos, and my personal and professional life.

I love Notion and believe it is a great tool with many applications. It is very good for project management because it comes with many features. You can do whatever you want and do it the way you want. You can donate hours to make it work for you. But here's the thing: a production system, in my opinion, should work for you, not the other way around. You should not give too much effort to improve your production system, especially if it can lead to delays. Now, you can argue that it will work well if you know it well or if you use a template, but that just led me to the next point, which is why I don’t use Notion.

So why not use Notion?

You have to work on your production plan, not the other way around!

You will need a system that works for you whether you are using Notion to manage your production system or mass production. You cannot afford a program that you need to work on. After all, you are probably using Notion to improve your productivity, so spending time repairing it is a technical delay.

That was my problem with Notion. I spent a lot of time adjusting it to fit my needs and experimenting with other templates, and as a result, I was constantly procrastinating and producing less. The production system must be straightforward and, above all, functional!

It's so complicated!

I feel like the more options available, the better, but I believe there should be a limit, especially with tools like Notion. There should be a way to make things easier, especially on mobile devices.

As a technology user, I prefer to have a variety of alternatives, but this is what fired me. I started using Notion as a university note-taking tool, but a week later, I stopped using it because I found composing notes so complicated, and by the time I started a new line, I had already forgotten what I wanted. Write down. I also found the lack of support for the drawing disturbing, especially as someone who enjoys drawing sketches while writing notes. To be honest, university, I went back to using OneNote to take notes, and I used Notion to insert my notes at the end.

Experience with mobile devices

Naturally, because the app is complex, mobile information is also complex. That's exactly what I found. Managing tasks on your phone, in my opinion, should be easy and fast. There should also be a way to identify and manage tasks on your watch, especially if you have a project idea that you want to remember before it is too late.

Compatibility with the natural environment

Application communication with other apps and services is another thing that tempts me away. I appreciate that things are improving, but I believe there is a good chance it will improve. I would like to be able to ask Siri or Alexa about the stage you are on, as well as add notes using the helpers.

My apps should be fully compatible with my production ecosystem, which I love. I would love to be able to create a calendar event at work and sync everything. Unfortunately, I don't think Notion will do that anytime soon.

That's a very good question! I mean, I still believe Notion is a great tool with a lot of promise. This time, however, my needs are clear. I need a plan to track my notes, blog posts, YouTube videos, and daily activities. I use ... to complete these tasks.
