Could it be that Emilia Clarke has joined the DCEU by replacing Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Well, Google thinks so! For a few years now, thanks in large part to the highly-public feud between Amber and ex-husband Johnny Depp, there has been a popular fan campaign for the role of Mera to be recast in the sequel.
There has also been a viral petition demanding Amber's removal from the film. More than 4.6 million names have since signed the petition, which you can find at Change.org, and those numbers are so high that we've got to imagine that Warner Bros executives have at least considered the possibility of recasting the role via reshoots.
Millions of fans noticed that when looking up the cast on Google for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Emilia Clarke's name suddenly appears alongside Jason Momoa and the other confirmed stars of the film. So, is it official that Amber is out and Emilia is in? Let's find out more.
Emilia Clarke's name has appeared on Google's Aquaman 2 cast list, and the internet has lost its mind.
The rumour mill is in full swing as people now think that the Game of Thrones star will replace Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Back in 2019, fans started a Change.org petition just months after Depp first sued his ex-wife.
The petition read: "Men are victims of domestic, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent it a being celebrated within the entertainment industry. Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2."
With regards to the verdict, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor proved that Amber's 2018 article in The Washington Post was defamatory and won $15 million, later capped at $10.35 million by Judge Penny Azcarate.
Emilia's Google confirmation lit up the mood of the netizens, with thousands tweeting their thoughts.
One person commented: "I can see this. It works well. Bye-bye, Amber heard; lol #Aquaman2."
Another said: "Uhh ok seriously tho... can we get Emilia Clarke to play #, Mera, now? Now that #Aquaman has been pushed back to December 2023, WB has loads of time to make things happen."
"She certainly had more chemistry with Jason Momoa," a third added.
A fourth said: "@wbpictures and @WBHomeEnt make it official replace Amber Heard with Emilia Clarke as Mera and make the announcement. That's an Aquaman people would 100% be interested in then."
With so much time still, until Aquaman 2 is released, it remains to be seen what changes, if any, will happen. As for now, it looks like Amber will remain as part of the film's cast. But as we've seen with recent projects like Batgirl – Warner Bros is no longer afraid to make drastic changes at the last minute. So, stay tuned to our channel for additional updates as we have them.
James Wan, director of the first Aquaman film, returned to direct the new instalment from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. He co-wrote the first Aquaman film alongside Will Beall and Wan.
The sequel will once again star actor Jason Momoa as the titular superhero, Aquaman. The cast also includes Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.
Meanwhile, some new fan art by Diego de Sousa has further sold some fans on the potential casting. One fan responded to the artwork, which is also going viral, by writing on Twitter, "Emilia Clarke is beautiful; she fits the role better for Aquaman, has better chemistry with Jason Momoa, and doesn't SH¥T on beds. That's a plus."
