Recently, Apple unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone. The next generation of mobile devices is complete with MP3 player, video / movie player, Internet access, and mobile phones. It is clear from the way the launch is handled that this new device will hit. But what are the costs?
Reports of iPhones between five hundred and six hundred dollars per device are enough to chase the thousands across the country who were standing in line to be one of the first to lay hands on one of these. While most people waited in line for just a few hours, there were a few actors waiting a day or two, like the first Hollywood concert or concert once in a lifetime.
When the doors were opened, excitement intensified, but the excitement was short-lived when many found out that they needed to sign up for a service program with AT&T. Many have opted to get an iPhone anyway, and several have tried to get it to work with their regular network company by inserting a sim card into their existing phones. All you find out is that AT&T is the ONLY network company supported by the iPhone.
If that is not enough, you need to set up APPLE again. You will need an iTunes account, whether you want it or not. To date, over half a million iPhones have been sold by about 50% of new customers who have opted to switch their service to AT&T.
Monopoly is defined as a market in which there are many buyers but only one seller; At the moment, and in the foreseeable future, it seems that if you are looking for the coolest new device on the market, Apple and AT&T have put the market on the corner. No other mobile service provider will work with the iPhone and at the moment, there are not many other similar devices. But that will not last long.
Verizon is not sitting back. They come after the iPhone and has a touch screen as well; but it will have no place to end. However, it will offer many of the same features that can be found on the iPhone.
Samsung has updated the i730 to the i760 and changed the design to a horizontal slide phone, as opposed to a straight slide. Samsung has another PDA phone coming out this year, the Samsung F700. It will have the same design as the iPhone, but with a slide keyboard layout. It will have its own unique OS. I'm not sure how it will work, but I doubt it will have as much software support as Windows Mobile does.
So, maybe for now, Apple and AT&T may be on their own, but it won't be long before other suppliers and manufacturers of mobile devices release the latest and greatest. What new additions can they think of? We must keep on the watch.

In fact, there are addictive games for people of all ages. Monopoly, however, should be listed on almost everyone's list of the most addictive games ever.
