The answer is simple. Not completely. It is advised that students do not simply depend only on giving entrance exams for these 90 central universities, of which 19 are private ones. However, education experts say CBSE and the continuous assessment now remains relevant only for those students who want to compete at the level of Joint Entrance Examination, National Eligibility Entrance Test or for IIT. Now, the class 10 exam will remain the only crucial level of test for a student. "Class 11 and class 12 are when students dwell deeper into selected subjects, Central Universities Entrance Exam has removed that relevance. Board exams were also done in two parts, this time during the pandemic. Basically, it is about continuous evolution. Teachers also take assignments - the focus of the school remains class 11 and 12, the focus of the schools will also be eroded now," said an educationist based in Delhi.
But the introduction of Central Universities Entrance Exam has not reduced the fear of high cut-offs often seen in scuffles over seats at the prestigious Delhi University. "There is a gap between demand and supply. The completion will still be for 1.5 lakh seats, of which about 70,000 seats at Delhi University. It has come to notice that some universities have started registration in UG courses for session 2022-2023, students from CBSE will be deprived of admission to UG courses if the last date is fixed by the universities prior to CBSE result declaration."
Educationist says that since the pattern of examinations is based mainly on National Council of Educational Research and Training, the CBSE board students could have a greater advantage in Central Universities Entrance Exam, even when officials have clarified in the past that they have looked at syllabus for class 12 from 20 state boards across India.
"Only roughly 22,000 schools follow the CBSE board curriculum in India, the majority of others follow the syllabus of the state boards. If a majorly National Council of Educational Research and Training based Central Universities Entrance Exam, damage has been done to the state board and the education of students," she said. While the argument is that some subjects such as English, Mathematics, Physics, or Science-based subjects may not be very different, political science and history generally encompass the state's culture and ethos.
In total, 9 universities got exemption from Central Universities Entrance Exam 2022 for undergraduate admissions. According to the letter shared by the UGC, these universities have cited various reasons including limited digital connectivity, poor infrastructure and geographical conditions because of which they should be given relaxation from adopting Central Universities Entrance Exam 2022 as a common centralized test for admission
"This would also make education expensive, but one would need to choose if they want to spend all the money on taking coaching for competitive exams such as Joint Entrance Examination, National Eligibility Entrance Test or Common Law Admission Test or spending money on coaching centers will lure them to the idea that studying in their institute will help garner a seat in the college of one's choice through Central Universities Entrance Exam," the professor said.
