Apple now makes the final smartphone with this feature.
Although there are many excellent cellphones available, one has this capability.
The "iPhone vs. Android" controversy might never end, with neither side claiming complete dominance. Both platforms have advantages and disadvantages, as do the businesses that produce the hardware and software. However, because its sole rival has left the game, Apple can now claim a monopoly over one feature.
The Alert slider won't come with the OnePlus 10T when it ships.
The OnePlus 10T will not include the renowned "alert slider" or mute option from the brand, despite the fact that the keynote presentation is still more than a week away. According to OnePlus Chief Designer Hope Liu in an interview with The Verge, the switch had to be removed to create a place within the phone for "high wattage charging, a huge battery capacity, and improved antenna signal."
Liu's description of the design may be accurate, however, this omission is disappointing: It was commonly known that OnePlus was the only Android OEM with a hardware switch for enabling or disabling sound warnings. The slider on the OnePlus version may be moved into three distinct modes: vibrating, quiet mode, and always enabled alerts. Like the majority of Android phones currently on the market, owners of the OnePlus 10T must now rely on software settings to silence or vibrate their phones.
Customers who own one of the company's OnePlus Nord series smartphones will undoubtedly find the hubbub around this "news" perplexing because OnePlus frequently leaves the alert slider off such handsets. The 10T is the first flagship, the fully-featured smartphone from OnePlus to do away with the alert slider, and that seems like a huge thing. Nord is, however, OnePlus' "affordable" range.
The only modern smartphone that still has a mute switch is the iPhone.
It makes Apple the sole smartphone producer to have such a hardware switch, therefore it is clear that it is no longer present on any new Android phones. The only options are to purchase an iPhone or an earlier OnePlus smartphone if you want the flexibility to silence your phone without looking at it or pulling it out of your pocket. Since OnePlus introduced the 10 Pro in March of this year, that won't be too difficult. However, that phone will be the final Android with a mute switch if OnePlus doesn't change its mind.
But let's be honest: Nobody buys a phone only for the mute button. Even if it's a strong selling feature, Apple is unlikely to air advertisements depicting a consumer discretely muting their iPhone before a crucial meeting. However, it's noteworthy because it marks a turning point for OnePlus as a brand and Android handsets in general. The alert slider will be missed, and we hope it returns. We'll use software to mute our cellphones till then.
Fun fact: Apple did remove the mute switch from one product line, however, it has never launched an iPhone without one. Up to the iPad Air 2, Apple used to include the switch on the iPad. It might be used as a mute switch or to enable or disable rotation lock. Both choices are now restricted to the Control Center.
