There is simply no argument about that. Drug overdose can be accidental or intentional. It happens when an individual takes more than the usual medically recommended dose. However, some people may be more sensitive to certain drugs that their metabolism cannot withstand the strength of the drug, resulting in side effects such as overdose. It can happen to people of any age. Accidental overdose is most common in very young children (from crawling age to around 5 years), while intentional overdose involves mostly teenagers and adults intending to harm themselves. Those who do it on purpose can suffer from underlying mental disorders as well as emotional problems such as depression and anxiety disorder. Celebrities are prone to drug overdoses due to the stress and pressure of their careers and lifestyles. Take the case of River Phoenix, who collapsed and died of a drug overdose on the sidewalk outside a rock club on Halloween night in 1993 at the age of 23. Don Simpson, who was one of the most successful Hollywood producers of the 1980s and 1990s with hits like Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop, Flash Dance, and The Rock, died of a drug overdose in January 1996. Animal House & The Blues Brothers actor John Belushi died of a drug overdose at the age of 33. And just recently, reality t.v. star and heiress Anna Nicole Smith. She was hotness personified. Not only did she grace the cover of Playboy, but she even won the coveted title of "Playmate of the Year" in 1993. The bunny made her an overnight sensation, sending men everywhere asking for more. And that includes Paul Marciano, co-chairman and CEO of one of the most recognized and influential brands in the fashion industry today, Guess?. Who gave Anna a ticket to the glamorous life of modeling and eventually show business. Anna Nicole Smith, who was born Vicki Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967, in Houston, Texas, rose to fame and took the same direction as the legend of the movie goddess Marilyn Monroe. And just like her idol, Anna Nicole has experienced celebrity status and a life of hardship. At the age of 17, Anna (then Vicki) married Billy Smith, who bore her a son, Daniel. The relationship was short-lived, so Anna began working as a topless dancer at a club in Houston to raise her son and pay the bills. A photographer discovered her and made her realize that she could use her body to make her dreams come true. Unfortunately, after a series of controversies, such as her marriage to a very senior citizen, 80-year-old oil magnate Howard Marshall II, bitter court battles between her secretary, son-in-law, ex-lover, and weight loss product Anna Nicole. Smith was found unconscious in her Florida hotel room on February 8, 2007, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The headline reads: "Accidental Prescription Drug Overdose Kills Former Reality TV Star and Playboy Castrate Anna Nicole Smith". According to Seminole Tribal Police Chief Charlie Tiger, the case has now been closed. "We are confident, based on an extensive review of the evidence, that this case was an accidental overdose with no other criminal element present," Tiger said at a news conference announcing the results of Smith's autopsy. Howard K. Stern, Smith's lawyer, and rumored lover sent a statement calling the death a tragic accident. His attorney, Lilly Ann Sanchez, read: "There was never any indication that there was any wrongdoing," she said. "It's terrible, it's painful, it's tragic, but it's an accident." Sanchez dismissed media reports implicating Stern in the Smith overdose accident as "outrageous speculation". She said Stern doesn't feel vindicated because he lost the most important person in his life, stressing that he loves Anna completely. Several prescription drugs were discovered in the hotel room, and all were under the names of both Smith and Stern. Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perter said prescription and over-the-counter medications, including three antidepressants or antianxiety medications, were found in Smith's system. Toxicology testing also revealed the presence of human growth hormone and chloral hydrate, a sleep-inducing depressant. According to Perter, the drugs in Smith's system affected his respiratory and circulatory systems, essentially incapacitating them. Contrary to speculation, he did not believe Smith attempted to kill herself, due to the large amount of chloral hydrate remaining in the vial and the normal levels of other drugs in her system. Autopsy results showed that Smith had an abscess in her left buttock that had been perforated by a needle, likely caused by injections of either growth hormone or vitamin B-12. Such a perforation allowed bacteria to enter Smith's blood and cause a high fever in the days before her death. She was treated with Tami flu and Cipro, an antiviral and a second antibiotic. Perter believed that this would not have happened if Anna Nicole had sought treatment for the fever and infection in a hospital, where she would not have had the opportunity to use chloral hydrate. Anna Nicole Smith's remains were buried in the Bahamas last March 2, 2007, next to the grave of her son Daniel, who died in September, shortly after the birth of her daughter Dannielynn. It is interesting to know that his son's death was also by an accidental overdose of three antidepressants: methadone, Leap, and Zoloft.
