Why and How to Care Teeths

Teeth are a very important part of our body, without which one cannot look beautiful or eat food. As millions of people around the world know, sensitive teeth can generally make life a nightmare.  Sensitive teeth come with pain and discomfort that can make eating or drinking your favorite food a painful experience.  Although you may be suffering from sensitive teeth, you can rest assured that they can be treated.

Typically, this condition presents with a toothache after drinking cold liquids, eating hot or cold foods, or breathing cold air.  Not only the teeth, but also the body is harmed by people who drink too much cold water. If the pain becomes too much to bear, you should see your dentist immediately, as the nerve of your teeth may be exposed.  Sensitive teeth usually start when the gums begin to pull away from the teeth.  The gums being a protective blanket, they cover and protect the roots of the teeth.  When the gums retract and pull away, the roots have no protection, and will therefore be exposed.

The exposed root tips have small tubules that lead directly to the nerves of the teeth.  Whenever pressure, hot or cold elements move down the ducts, it will trigger nerves and cause pain.  People who do not have sensitive teeth, their gums cover the tubules, which prevents these types of things from happening.

The idea here is to prevent tooth sensitivity and keep gums healthy.  If you reduce the pressure you use while brushing your teeth, you will find that your gums will remain healthy.  When taught to brush their teeth, most people are instructed to use a lot of force.  While this can clean teeth, it will also tear the gums, which can lead to sensitive teeth.  If you have sensitive teeth now, you should try using an electric toothbrush.

Although you may have sensitive teeth right now, there are ways you can help improve your gums and your teeth.  There are many toothpastes on the market that contain potassium nitrate, which helps reduce the pain and discomfort associated with sensitivity.  Although there are many toothpastes to choose from, Sensodyne is a favorite.  It is best recommended by dentists, simply because it affects the nerve of the tooth and stops where the pain starts.

Mouthwash can also help with tooth sensitivity, provided it contains fluoride.  You can also ask your dentist which mouthwash he recommends, as there are many options to choose from.  Scope is a great brand to use, as it gives you plenty of fluoride without the alcohol.  Unlike Listerine, the Scope won't burn your mouth when you use it.  It will leave you with a clean feeling, and thoroughly clean your mouth and teeth – killing millions of bacteria.

If you start using fluoride toothpaste such as Sensodyne and mouthwash, you will notice a slight improvement in your teeth and gums.  The sensitivity will start to go away, giving you almost instant relief.  When you brush, make sure you brush gently, and avoid using any kind of force, as this will always cause your gums to recede.

In the event that using Sensodyne and fluoride mouthwash does not help, you should ask your dentist about other options available to you.  Your dentist will know what will help you, so you shouldn't hesitate to ask.  Your dentist will know how to eliminate your sensitivity permanently and prevent it from coming back.  Tooth sensitivity is something that many of us have to deal with – although there are ways you can fight back and prevent the pain and discomfort associated with sensitivity from making your life difficult.
