Mohammed Rafee Tarafdar, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Infosys, is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Karnatak University with a strong commitment to leveraging technology for social good. As the founder of Infosys’ Strategic Technology Group, he leads a global team of technology leaders, full-stack architects, and power programmers who deliver complex digital, cloud, and AI solutions for enterprise clients. Beyond his technical expertise, Rafee is deeply involved in Infosys’ Tech for Good initiative, a program dedicated to using technology to drive meaningful societal change.
In a recent interview, Rafee shared insights on how Tech for Good aligns with Infosys’ Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. The initiative, which aims to impact millions of lives, has already surpassed its 2025 target of reaching 80 million people. Now, the focus is on redefining goals for 2030, with a strategic emphasis on three key areas: e-governance, healthcare, and education.
E-Governance: Building Digital Identities for Global Impact
Infosys is collaborating with the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP) at IIIT Bangalore to create digital identity solutions for citizens worldwide. Rafee highlighted three critical contributions:

Android Registration Client: A hardware-software kit enabling user onboarding in remote areas with poor connectivity, currently deployed in countries like Zambia and Ethiopia.

Single Sign-On Module: Simplifying access to government services through digital identity authentication.

Digital Credential Management: Verifying and managing credentials, such as farmers’ certificates, to streamline access to services.
Healthcare: Democratizing Eye Care with Technology
In partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute, Infosys developed SiteConnect, an app that allows users to self-assess eye conditions like cataracts and red eye. The app directs users to appropriate care centers, democratizing access to eye care. Over 150,000 users have benefited, with 40% requiring further medical intervention.
Education: Empowering Communities Through Digital Skilling
Through the Springboard initiative, Infosys is reskilling citizens via an open-source platform available in multiple Indian languages. The program includes on-ground activities, such as skilling prison inmates in Karnataka and deploying Springboard Lab on Wheels, a mobile unit equipped with Raspberry Pi devices to bring education to rural areas.
Responsible AI: A Non-Negotiable Priority
Rafee emphasized that Responsible AI is integral to Infosys’ DNA. The company has established a Responsible AI office, focusing on 12 key parameters to ensure ethical AI development. Infosys has also open-sourced technical guardrails to address vulnerabilities in AI models, enabling others to adopt best practices.
