Having experienced surgery, I/you know how many things can go wrong in the hospital - and how painful the experience can be, leading to poor treatment and even PTSD. 12. Expect everyone to be well! Talk to God, the Divine Spirit, your angels, guides, your Higher Power, and ask for protection and speedy healing before and after your surgery or procedure. See yourself healthy and happy after this experience.
11. Know the pain reliever you will be taking during and after your procedure/surgery; Make sure it is one that does not cause you any other disease. Contact your doctor. Make sure that the medicines you have taken are not causing any other disease, if so, change your medicine.

9. Speak and ask for what you want, and complain. Don't let anyone bully you or be rude to you, not even a doctor! If this occurs, notify the patient advocate or the chief of nursing immediately. Studies show that vocal patients recover much faster than silent patients.
8. If you will be hospitalized, take a close relative with you. This will increase your sense of security, confidence and well-being. Some hospitals allow them to sleep in your room with prior arrangement. You need an educated person with you! Ask them to stay with you in your room at least for the first few days after/after surgery.
7. Always double check all medicines you are given to see if you have been given an expired medicine. Mistakes are common in hospitals. If hospitalized, make sure your bed has a wristband and a plank that explains your special needs in addition to what is written on your chart!
6. Make sure your surgeon or doctor will be available immediately after your procedure and in the days following. If they aren't available, find out who will. If you have an emergency, you won't want to be without their help!

4. Sign your medical consent form, at least a few days before you are admitted to the hospital for your surgery. Please "double- check" that form for accuracy, it is good that a friend read them too. Mistakes can be common here. If we do not check our mistakes on one occasion, then we can lose many healthy organs. Remember: you can change your mind and change your mind about surgery/treatment at the last minute!
3. Consult different doctors for your diagnosis and treatment. You need to be fully informed of your choice before having any surgery, medical treatment, including chemo or radiation. Go online and make yourself known about your disease.
