Born on June 22, 1974, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, better known by his stage name Vijay, is an Indian actor and singer who primarily performs in Tamil films. He has seven times been listed in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list and is one of the most paid actors in India. He's acted in 67 feature films as the lead. Known as Thalapathy, which translates to "Commander," Vijay enjoys a sizable fan base across the globe. He has received other honors, such as the South Indian International Movie Award and the Osaka Best Actor Award. He rose to the position of highest paid actor in India in 2023.
1984–2003: Starting as a child actor and moving into leading parts;
With the help of actor-producer P. S. Veerappa, Vijay made his film debut at the age of ten in Vetri (1984), where he received his first pay of ₹500 rupees. After that, he appeared in movies including Kudumbam (1984), Vasantha Raagam (1986), Sattam Oru Vilayaattu (1987), and Ithu Engal Neethi (1988) as a kid actor. He also costarred with Rajinikanth, the main actor, in Naan Sigappu Manithan (1985).
At the age of 18, Vijay made his feature debut in Naalaiya Theerpu (1992). After that, Vijay starred in the movies Coimbatore Mappillai, Rasigan, Deva, and Sendhoorapandi. Despite receiving little critical recognition, they were commercially successful.
He claims that Poove Unakkaga, directed by Vikraman, gave him his "initial breaks" and helped his fame "reach great heights" in 1996. In 1997, Vijay performed in Love Today, which was well-received by viewers, and Kaalamellam Kaathiruppen, which was well-received by reviewers. In addition, he starred in the critically and financially successful films Nerrukku Ner, Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Ninaithen Vandhai, Priyamudan, and Thulladha Manamum Thullum. After that, he appeared in the movie Nilaave Vaa. The movies Nenjinile, Minsara Kanna, and Endrendrum Kadhal came after this.
