Who replaces KL Rahul as captain of Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2022 : Mayank Agarwal to lead

2014 Indian Premier League finalists Punjab Kings on Monday appointed opener Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the team ahead of IPL 2022. Agarwal has been the member of Punjab Kings(previously Kings XI Punjab) since 2018 and was the vice-captain to KL Rahul. In 2021 IPL, Agarwal had controlled Punjab when Rahul was out due to acute appendicitis and had to undergo surgery.

 

Indian Premier League 2022 will be a 10-team affair and will be an exciting edition as teams will participate in the tournament with the team they have picked from the mega auction. Punjab Kings (PBKS) has been one of the teams in the report of the tournament without any Indian Premier League title. The team will look to win their maiden title of the tournament with a new pond of players. 

 

Going into the mega auction ahead of the tournament, PBKS retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. Now, the team has called Mayank Agarwal as their new leader for the upcoming season. They made the announcement on their Twitter hold. Agarwal has been part of the privilege since 2018. Returning to commanding the team in Indian Premier League, Agarwal revealed that he is delighted to have the opportunity to lead the squad. 

 

Mayank, who was one of the two players retained ahead of mega auction along with pacer Arshdeep Singh, said he was excited on being given the responsibility to lead the franchise." I have been at Punjab Kings since 2018 and, I take a lot of cheer in act for this extraordinary unit. I am pride to be given the opportunity to lead the team. I take over this power with utmost sincerity, but at the same time, I believe my job would be made easier with the talent we have at the Punjab Kings squad this season. We have some enormous experienced players in our ranks, along with many power youngsters who are keen to grab the opportunity and run with it.

 

"We have always taken to the field to await to win the title and as a team we will once again work towards this aim of elevating our first Indian Premier League trophy. I thank the team administration for charging me with this new role of leading the side. I look forward to the new condition and the new disputes it brings with it.”

 

Anil Kumble, Head Coach, Punjab Kings said, “Mayank has been an integral part of the side since 2018 and of the leadership group for the last two years. The new squad we selected at the recently completed auction has agitating young talent and outstanding experienced players. We want to create a strong base for the future with Mayank at the wheel. He is active, lively, a team player, with all the attributes required of a leader. I look forward to working with him as captain and believe that he will lead this team to a flourishing battle.”

 

Punjab went into the IPL Mega Auction with the highest purse of INR 72 crores. The franchise utilised the huge pocket  in picking players like Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada, Odean Smith, Rahul Chahar, Rajangad Bawa, Sandeep Sharma apart from buying back previous players Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Ishan Porel and Prabhsimran Singh.
