Netflix is adding even more new games to its gaming section, with the latest announcement involving a partnership with indie mobile publisher Tilting Point. The publisher has announced that cooking game SpongeBob: Get Cooking is available now on Netflix, with Narcs: Cartel Wars Unlimited joining it in the fall, as well as a third unannounced game due for a 2023 release.
SpongeBob: Get Cooking is a cooking game based off Nickelodeon's hit show, which sees players exploring the world of Bikini Bottom to cook dishes for familiar characters. Based off Tilting Point's existing mobile game SpongeBob: Kristy, Cook-Off, Get Cooking is exclusive to Netflix subscribers. Players can download SpongeBob: Get Cooking here.
Narcs: Cartel Wars Unlimited is a base-building strategy game based off Netflix's popular series. Players take the role of a cartel kingpin, deciding along the way how they want to build up their power and reputation. Cartel Wars Unlimited will be available through Netflix this fall. The third game Tilting Point is bringing to Netflix is still unnamed, but the publisher has said it's being developed by Emerald City Games, and will be "based on a popular Netflix series." The game, Netflix's gaming platform in 2023. The Netflix Games catalog currently contains over 30 titles, with indie hit Oxen free, one of the most recent games to be added. Netflix's focus is on mobile gaming with no ads, no hidden purchases, and no microtransactions, and it currently has a roster of both third-party titles and Netflix original games--including some based on its popular original TV shows. Sony increased its stake in Vadodara to 14.09% earlier this year, and many wondered what the purpose of the increased investment mat be. We still don't know for sure, but now we know a potential From Software TV show or movie might be in the cards.
PlayStation Productions is Sony's relatively newly established division that is responsible for adapting PlayStation games for TV and film. One of its first big productions was the Uncharted movie, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Upcoming projects include the Gran Tourism and Ghost of sushi films.
Earlier this year, Elden Ring publisher Banzai Nam co alluded to the possibility of the game being extended beyond video games. Banzai Nam co president and CEO ASU Miyazawa said Elden Ring, as a franchise, will be developed in a "variety of other areas" outside of games." We will continue to develop Elden Ring not only as a game but also in a variety of other areas in order to deliver the worldview and charm of this title to our fans around the world. From Software doesn't have any new games that have been announced yet, but the Japanese team's next game is reportedly already nearing completion and the studio is hiring for additional projects beyond that almost two years into the lifecycle of its PS5 console, Sony has adopted a multi-platform approach for its gaming division that has seen heavy investment in PC ports, mobile games, and live-service titles.
Speaking to Axiom, PlayStation Studios chief Her men Holst explained that Sony's expansion onto PC and mobile hardware came from the company realizing that the traditional console cycle was becoming unsustainable as game development costs began to rise. Holst said that Sony plans to build up its "internal capability" to make mobile games--such as the acquisition of Savage Game Studios in this space--and will also work with external partners on its projects.
