In the Old World, the Agricultural Revolution started around 12,000 years ago, while in the New World, it started roughly 4,000 years ago. We are beginning a technological revolution whereby we cultivate our own food. Animals are domesticated by humans for food and agricultural assistance. The population can increase as long as food is produced more. A sizable section of the population works as farmers to produce food, but farming also frees up a smaller fraction of the population for other occupations like skilled tradesmen, government employees, teachers, and members of the clergy. It is during this era that writing is invented and used. Complex buildings and dwellings are being constructed. Cities, sizable states, and eventually entire empires are shown. Not only does music and other arts get more complicated, but religion also does. Once more, the Agricultural Revolution makes it possible for the human population to grow significantly. Hundreds of farmers, bureaucrats, monks, and artists can today live on a piece of land that could only have supported a small number of hunters and gatherers in the past. We observe numerous new issues as well. There are more fatal diseases now due to increased human density and increased proximity to domesticated animals, and current medical technology falls short of what is needed to find effective treatments. The Agricultural Revolution's technology only provides mankind with limited tools to combat these illnesses. The advancement of steel and other metals in technology has made mankind more proficient in combat. More misery and more lethal types of warfare result from this. A significant increase of slavery throughout this time period is also observed, along with the pain and adversity it causes.
Approximately 260 years ago, or approximately 1760 AD, the Third "Great Leap" started in England. The industrial revolution is currently underway. The establishment of garment factories in England is the catalyst for this change. It quickly expands to include much more. Scientific advancements at universities follow the trail of scientific inventions that started with small scientific organisations in England. Universities that were first established to teach religion and train priests have expanded to include other fields of study and advancement, such as science. The growth of science and technology results in a significant increase in food production. Thanks to technological advancements, humanity is now able to provide vaccinations, treatments, and cures for a wide range of ailments that had been wreaking havoc on people during the agricultural revolution.
Where are we at this point, then? Are we living in a unique historical moment? Are we about to embark on humanity's Fourth "Great Leap"? It is common to believe that we are residing in a unique era. to think that something new is about to begin. The response would be that we are not in a unique moment. Furthermore, something fresh is not about to begin. Indeed, the Industrial Revolution is just getting started. As we only260 years or so into the Industrial Revolution. This is fantastic news since, in my opinion, we have not yet fully realized the promise of the Industrial Revolution. The industrial revolution has improved human health and longevity during the past 260 years, as well as increased access to food and comfort. These trends, in my opinion, will not change. I believe that this is just the beginning. It's excellent news that advancements in automation, computers, food production, medical, transportation, and other fields of technology are only getting started. Social movements in more recent times have brought about the abolition of slavery and increased equality for marginalized communities and castes. One could argue that the Industrial Revolution has brought out its own set of ills and issues. I would concur, but I would also argue that technology development, which has been going on for the past 260 years and will likely continue for hundreds or perhaps thousands of years, is the main way that we have and will be able to address these issues. This is not to argue that there won't be difficulties with "new" issues like global warming, obesity, and income disparity. However, I believe that these are problems that humanity is tackling and will eventually resolve due to constantly advancing technology.
There is currently one significant change taking place. The world's population, which has increased dramatically since the commencement of the Industrial Revolution, is beginning to slow down and may soon begin to shrink. I contend that the population of the planet will cease increasing and may perhaps modestly fall over the next 50 years. People are opting to have fewer children, which is the reason for the population decline. This is a global phenomenon that is taking place in practically every nation. Additionally, this is a first in human history. Populations have declined in the past, but this hasn't been due to population control; rather, it has been caused by famines, wars, and plagues.
Economic growth and technology will therefore persist when our population growth first stabilizes and then gradually slows down. People will enjoy even better, healthier, and richer lives as a result of economic growth and population leveling off. While a Fourth "Great Leap" is far off, we are about to embark on a long-lasting golden age.
