School Education Department in Madhya Pradesh will examine schools and ensure that they are following the school dress related guidelines, the state education minister said.
As the controversy over wearing a headscarf or Hijab in schools gets heated up in Karnataka, the Madhya Pradesh government too is considering banning hijab from schools. State Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar has said that students will be allowed to wear “only dress code" He added that “hijab is not a part of school dress."

Many students of the Shivamogga government PU college are demanding that Hijab be not allowed in college.
Early on Tuesday, speaking to the newsmen in Bhopal, the MP School Education minister Inder Singh Parmar on being asked about the use of hijab in schools claimed that he deems such outfit can not be part of the school dress code. After controversy brewed on the matter, he sort of backtracked and said the department was working on a uniform dress code for schools and this has nothing to do with any religion or community.
Parmar in a video statement said that the department is working on a dress code for schools (starting with CM Rise schools), in order to bring uniformity and equality among students. Fending off queries on banning hijab in schools, Parmar claimed that uniform isn’t connected to any community, its for all and it was unfortunate that people are linking dress code with a communitycommunity
Congress Bhopal Madhya MLA Arif Masood said that it is an unfortunate statement from the minister. Daughters look good when covered, he said adding Parmar should more think about the quality of education. It’s a fact that Hijab hasn’t done any damage to education in the last 70 years. There was a time (covid19) when everyone was required to put on masks.
If implemented, I will oppose this diktat vehemently in the state, affirmed the Congress MLA who has been cornering state government on a number of issue
s.The issue that initially began in January at a Government PU College in Udupi where six students who attended classes wearing headscarves in violation of the stipulated dress code were sent out, has spread to a few other colleges in the city and in nearby Kundapur and Byndoor.
This comes as groups of Hindu students decided to wear saffron scarves to their colleges to protest the Muslim girls wearing a hijab while attending classes. Many hijab-wearing girls have also been stopped from entering the college premises in Karnataka.
The state government order reads, “Invoking 133 (2) of the Karnataka Education Act-1983, which says a uniform style of clothes has to be worn compulsorily. The private school administration can choose a uniform of their choice.”
