The purpose was not to launch the rocket into space butto re-land and re-use it. An engine caught fire in his first launch which caused him a lot of damage. Then he tried second time, but the rocket went off-route and the same thing happened the third time. At that time he was depressed then, after a few days, he made a crazy announcement that he is going to launch the rocket the fourth time, and then he got success.
