Triti Banerjee is currently the first female head of the Zoological Survey of India, one of India's oldest wildlife research institutes.
Launched in July 1916, the organization is headquartered in Kolkata. For the past century, women leaders have not been responsible for the organization, which operates under the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. The organization, which has 16 regional research centers across the country, has been conducting research, raising awareness, and surveying the species living in India and their habitat.
Although the Zoological Survey of India was started in the early 20th century, its history dates to 1784, the Asiatic Society of Bengal was founded on January 15, 1784, by Sir William Jones. It is considered the parent body of the Indian Museum, the Geological Society of India, and the Zoological Survey of India, founded in 1875. The Bengal Asian Society, which was engaged in collecting and analyzing geological and biological fossils, was later divided into three sections and conducted exclusively geological and biological studies.
One of the oldest and foremost research institutes in the field of ecological research in India, it has been employing female researchers since 1949. Mira Manzukani was the first female researcher to make history by joining the organization for the first time. During the year 2016, Triti Banerjee, who was the Vice President, contributed to producing a documentary on 100 women researchers who have rendered significant services in the history of the Indian Institute of Biology. The book, The Glorious 100 Women’s Scientific Contribution in ZSI, was published to mark the organization's centenary.

Speaking on the book in 2016, Venkataraman, former president of the Indian Institute of Biology, said, “This book shows that women have an equal role to play in social and scientific development, in the nation's development. Mira Mansukhani was the first female researcher to be hired at the Indian Institute of Biology in 1949. Following her, many female researchers have played a key role in the development of this organization. We will honor their legacy by welcoming more women into the field of scientific research. “
Many female researchers have made many achievements in the last hundred years. But this is the first time a woman has taken over as head of the organization. As the first female head of the Indian Institute of Biology, researcher Triti Banerjee is currently in charge, inspiring female researchers.
Triti Banerjee is the first woman president of the Indian Institute of Biological Research.
Banerjee, an entomologist, specializes in insects belonging to the double-winged family. Heads the Biological Information Structure, Genetic and Molecular Data Collection, and Biological Samples of the Indian Institute of Biology. When she joined the service here in the 1990s, women accounted for 24 percent of the company’s total researchers. That rate has now risen to 40 percent.
He studied at Presidency College, Kolkata. He has participated in 15 scientific research projects and has contributed to 95 research papers published nationally and internationally.
He has done various researches in the fields of Zoogeography, Taxonomy, Morphology, and Molecular Biology. Commenting on this new responsibility, he said, “Women have unique abilities. Able to maintain both family and work equally. We are moving the 100-year-old proud Indian Biological Institute to the next level in the path of biodiversity conservation and long-term development. ”
