                  Right-handed batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni is regarded as a renowned wicketkeeper-batsman. He has also bowled right arm medium in a few games. From 2007 to 2016, he led India in limited-overs matches, and from 2008 to 2014, he led India in Test cricket. Dhoni acquired the nickname "Captain Cool" for maintaining composure even under pressure to lead India to victories in significant games. He ranks among the best finishers in limited-overs cricket, and rightfully so. He helped India win the ODI world championship in 2011. He ended the last match with a six to give India the trophy after 28 years, which was the cherry on top. Dhoni made his Ranji debut for Bihar in the 1999–2000 season when he was 18 years old.

                 One of the 15 players selected for the India team to compete in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales is MS Dhoni. Before the 2019 World Cup, MS Dhoni, who made his ODI debut on December 23, 2004, had played 341 ODI games. He faced 11992 balls at an average of 50.72 and a strike rate of 87.56 while batting in 289 innings, scoring a total of 10500 runs with an average of 50.72. In 82 of those innings, he went unchallenged. His highest inning total was 183*. He accumulated 10 centuries and 71 half-centuries. MS Dhoni has bowled 36 balls and had claimed 1 wicket while allowing 31 runs to be scored overall.

                  On December 2, 2005, Dhoni played his first Test match in Chennai's M. A. Chidambaram Stadium against Sri Lanka. After Anil Kumble retired from the sport in 2008, he was appointed the longest format captain of the Indian cricket team. In 2009, while he served as captain, India attained Test cricket's top spot for the first time. He also achieved the milestone of 4,000 runs in Test cricket before any other Indian wicket keeper batter. After the Boxing Day Test against Australia in 2014, Dhoni declared his retirement from Test play. However, Captain Cool now holds the record for the most overseas Test losses suffered by an Indian captain (15), a record he would like to break.

                 Dhoni was the most expensive player in the IPL that season when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) acquired him for a staggering Rs 15 crore. Since the beginning of the Indian Premier League, Dhoni has led CSK to three championships: in 2010, 2011 and 2018. He was once again selected as captain by Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 following CSK's two-year suspension. MS Dhoni has appeared in 190 matches across multiple IPL editions, scoring 4,432 runs at an average of 42.20 and a strike rate of 137.85. In the 2019 edition, he achieved his highest score of 84 not out.

               Prior to becoming a cricketer, Dhoni served as the goalie for the football team at his DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir school[19]. However, after seeing his goalkeeping prowess, Dhoni's cricketing inspiration, coach Keshav Ranjan Banerjee, chose him to play cricket for his school team. He was able to take over as the Commando Cricket Club's regular wicket keeper thanks to his remarkable wicketkeeping abilities.
