The two new Indian Premier League (IP L) franchises -- Lucknow and Ahmedabad -- named their three draft picks each on Friday ahead of the Indian Premier League mega auction, which is set to be held next month. While Ahmedabad roped in (H A R D I K P A N D Y A), Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill, Lucknow drafted in KL Rahul, (Marcus S T O I N I S) and (Ravi B I S H N O I). Rahul, who will also lead the Lucknow-based franchise in the upcoming (I P L) season, was roped in by the franchise for Rs 17 crore, making him the joint-highest player in the history of the cash rich league.
In 2018, former India captain Virat Kohli was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 17 crore ahead of the auction.
The Lucknow franchise will enter this year's auction with a purse of Rs 59.89 crore.
Apart from Rahul, Lucknow signed Australia all-rounder Marcus S T O I N I S and uncapped Indian spinner Ravi B I S H N O I for Rs 9.2 crore and Rs 4 crore, respectively.
Ahmedabad, on the other hand, signed H A R D I K P A N D Y A as their skipper for Rs 15 crore, while Afghanistan stalwart Rashid Khan has also been picked up for the same price.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, was drafted in for Rs 8 crore ahead of this year's auction.
Ahmedabad will enter the mega auction with Rs 52 crore in their purse.
H A R D I K P A N D Y A has been named captain of the Ahmedabad franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction. Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill are the two other draft picks of the team. H A R D I K P A N D Y A, who was not retained by the Mumbai Indians earlier last year, had been one of the mainstays of the MI side since making his debut. Gary Kirsten, the batting coach, and mentor of the Ahmedabad franchise in the Indian Premier League (I P L) has said that H A R D I K P A N D Y A will be really motivated to show what he can do on the big stage as a leader. Ahmedabad have picked H A R D I K P A N D Y A (Rs 15 crore), Rashid Khan (Rs 15 crore), and Shubman Gill (Rs 8 crore). V I K R A M S O L A N K I have been appointed as Ahmedabad's Director of Cricket, while H A R D I K P A N D Y A will be leading the franchise. Gary Kirsten will serve as the batting coach and mentor of the Ahmedabad franchise, while Ashish N E H R A has been appointed as the head coach.
A total of 1,214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas) have registered to be a part of the mega auction, the Indian Premier League said in a statement on Saturday.
The list consists of 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 Associate players.
A total of 27 players have been retained by the existing franchises, while the two new franchises have drafted in three players each ahead of the mega auction in Bengaluru next month.
