Isaac Newton was the greatest English mathematician of his generation. He laid the foundations of differential and integral calculus. His work on optics and gravity makes him one of the best scientists in the world.

What was different about Newton's optics?
With it, Newton separated natural white light into the spectrum of visible primary colors, which could be refracted to different degrees and recombined to form white light again.
