Who is Neeraj Chopra?
Neeraj Chopra was born on 24th December in the year 1997. He was born in Chandra village of Panipat District in Haryana. His parents are Satish Kumar and Saroja Devi. His family is a Haryanavi agricultural family. He has two sisters, namely Sangeeta Chopra and Sarita Chopra. He has been graduated from Dayananda Anglo-Vedic College. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts from the Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar of Punjab. He is working for our nation in the Indian Army. Currently, he is serving as Subedar in the Indian Army. He joined the army in 2016. His unit is 4 Rajputana Rifles. He also got Vishisht Seva Medal as an honor. He is also a great Javelin thrower. His personal coach is Uwe Hohn.
What are his achievements in his career as Javelin before the Tokyo Olympics?
He was a proud person for India from the beginning. He made many achievements in his career of Javelin throw. In the 2016 IAAF(International Association of Athletics Federation) World Under 20 Championship, he made a World Junior Record of 86.48m. He also holds a national record of 88.07m in the Javelin throw. He currently holds 6 gold medals and 1 silver medal in international competitions. He won two gold medals in Asian games 2018 and Commonwealth Games 2018. He also received the Arjuna award in 2018 from our respected President of India, Ramnath Kovind.
Why he became very famous recently?
The main reason for the widespread of the name Neeraj Chopra is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which made him a different personality. He achieved his gold medal in his very first debut. On 7th August 2021, in his 2nd attempt, he threw a massive throw of 87.58, which made the whole world spectate on him. This was also his first debut in his Olympics. The big thing is that he is the only one to win a gold medal in the Olympic debut.
Why is India proud of him?
Just by his one throw, he achieved many records, which were not achieved by anyone. This made the whole of India happy and proud of him.

- He and Abhinav Bindra are the only two persons in India to win a gold medal in Olympics in an individual event.
- He is only the one who achieved the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 from the side of India.
- At the age of 23, he is also the youngest Indian to win a gold medal in Olympics.
