Who is Mahatma Gandhi?

Introduction:

When I searched on google, Who is Mahatma? Then I got about Mahatma Gandhi. When we listen to the word 'Mahatma,' A picture that comes into our mind of a person wearing holy saffron clothes, taking holy beads in his hands, and who had taken celibate. But Gandhi, not such a person. He got married and had four children. Also, how can we call mahatma? By birth, he did not Mahatma. Actually, he became mahatma, by his duty.

Initially, he is an ordinary person. He even does some things in his childhood, but later on, he has changed himself. So, I suggest you read his autobiography, "My Experiment With Truth." There is a journey of Mahatma Gandhi to become a Mahatma.

Mahatma means a great-souled. A person to be revered for high-mindedness, wisdom, and selflessness.

Life of Mahatma Gandhi:

In a small, whitewashed house in Porbandar on the coast of Kathiawar in western India, Mohandas was born on October 2, 1869. His parents were Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibai. He was small and dark and looked from no different from the millions of other children born in India. Yet this was no ordinary child.

Family background:

Gandhi's family was of some importance in Porbandar. His father, called Karamchand but often known as Kaba, was the city's prime minister. Karamchand had already had three wives before he married a much younger woman called Putlibai. She gave birth to her fourth and final child, Gandhi himself, when she was just 25 years old, but her husband was 47. In total, Karamchand had six children: three daughters and three sons.

Religion and Caste:

Gandhi's were followers of the Hindu religion. As members of the Vaishya(merchant) caste and Banias(grocer) sub-caste, they were not of high rank. Nevertheless, they were devout and gave some special allegiance to the god Vishnu. Gandhi's mother also prayed and fasted regularly. She made sure that her family ate a vegetarian diet, following Hindu beliefs.

School days:

At age 9, Gandhi entered a local school in Rajkot near his name. There he studied the rudiments of arithmetic, history, geography, and Gujarati Language. At age, 11 He joined the High School in Rajkot. He was an average student, won some prizes, but was a shy and tongue-tied student, with no interest in games. His only companies were books and school lessons. In November 1887, the 18 years old Gandhi graduated from high school in Ahmedabad. Then he goes to London to complete his law and become a barrister.

Mahatma Gandhi's role in freedom:

One of the greatest men in the history of India is Mahatma Gandhi. The way he gave shape to India's freedom struggle is worthy of a standing ovation. He sacrificed his own life for the sake of his country. The respect that he earned for himself despite leading a simple lifestyle is much appreciable. Mahatma Gandhi played a pivotal role inthe freedom of India. His nonviolent ways and peaceful methods were the foundation for gaining independence. From the British, Gandhi took his time to grow and develop his techniques to ensure that his actions impacted. His faith in different religions was commendable. One of the first series of nonviolent protests nationwide was the non-cooperation movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. This movement aimed to make the Indians aware that the British government can be opposed, and if it did actively, it would keep a check on them. After the quit India movement, the freedom struggle got even more intense and passionate. Entire India was united together in the movement for freedom. Everyone contributed to what they could bin the freedom struggle. The try of purna swaraj or complete independence was raised. After much sacrifices and efforts, India gained its independence on August 15, 1947.
