Who is Elon Musk????

Elon Musk is a South African-born American business magnate, industrial designer, and engineer. He is the founder, CEO, and chief engineer/designer of SpaceX; early investor, CEO, and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; and founder of The Boring Company. He was also co-founder and initial co-chairman of OpenAI. Musk was born to a Canadian mother and South African father and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. He briefly attended the University of Pretoria before moving to Canada aged 17 to attend Queen's University.

 

He transferred to the University of Pennsylvania two years later, where he received dual bachelor's degrees in economics and physics. He moved to California in 1995 to attend Stanford University, instead decided to pursue a business career, co-founding web software company Zip2 with his brother. Musk's first company, Zip2, was sold for $22 million in 1999. He then founded X.com, an online bank. It merged with Continuity in 2000, which had launched PayPal the previous year and was eventually sold to eBay for $1.5 billion in October 2002. In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company, of which he is CEO, lead designer, and lead engineer.

In 2004, he helped create Tesla, Inc., an electric vehicle and clean energy company, of which he is product architect and CEO. In 2006, he helped create SolarCity, a solar energy services company that is now a subsidiary of Tesla. In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI, a nonprofit research company that promotes friendly AI in order to benefit humanity as a whole. Musk has stated that the goals of his companies revolve around his vision to help reduce global warming and help make life multi planetary by creating a self-sustaining city on Mars. SpaceX's first two Falcon 1 launches in March 2006 and March 2007 both failed, but the third launch in 2008 successfully placed the first privately-funded liquid-fueled vehicle into Earth orbit.

In 2012, SpaceX became the first privately-funded company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station, and in 2018, it launched its first Falcon Heavy rocket. Tesla, Inc. designs and manufactures electric cars, electric vehicle powertrain components, and energy storage systems. It is currently the world's second-most valuable automaker, behind Toyota. In addition to his primary business pursuits, Musk has also proposed the Hyperloop, a high-speed vac train transportation system. Musk has stated that the goals of his companies revolve around his vision to help reduce global warming and help make life multi planetary by creating a self-sustaining city on Mars. As of 2018, Musk is among the most financially successful entrepreneurs in recent history, having accumulated a net worth of over $20 billion.

However, he has also been criticized for his management style and controversial statements. In 2018, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Musk with securities fraud for tweets he made in which he claimed to have secured funding to take Tesla private. As part of a settlement, Musk stepped down as Chairman of Tesla and was fined $20 million. Despite these controversies, Musk influences in the technology and automotive industries, as well as his ambitious goals for the future of humanity, have made him a highly-discussed and polarizing figure. Musk vision for the future of humanity is a grand one, with a focus on sustainability and multi planetary colonization. Through SpaceX, Tesla, SolarCity, and The Boring Company, he aims to reduce global warming and establish a human settlement on Mars. His companies have already made significant.
