This is probably the most discussed question in India in recent times. Two of India's most talented batsman who has dominated the bowlers of their respective periods. I feel that it's not wise to compare two different batters in two different generations.
Still my vote for Sachin.
But- Virat Kohli is a phenomenal Batsman. He is the most consistent batsman of this generation and many generations before him. Combined with his passion for the game and his fitness level, he is currently the best batsman of the generation by far.
Virat Kohli, the current captain of team India, has scored 7,490 runs in 91 test matches, 12,169 runs in 294 ODIs Matches, 3,159 runs in 90 T20I Matches.
Sachin Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs in 200 test matches, 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs Matches.
Virat kohli broke the record held by master blaster Sachin tendulkar . Kohli becomes the fastest player to complete 12,000 runs in ODIs cricket. Before, this record was with Sachin Tendulkar. He had reached the figure of 12,000. Kohli accomplished this feat in only his 242 ODIs innings, while Sachin completed in 300 ODIs innings.
I think the comparison should not be made in the first place, but if there has to be an answer, it would be Sachin Tendulkar (personally). I have seen Kohli’s fans been very aggressive at times while listening to this. So please read the post and stop saying Sachin or Kohli is a better player. I am giving some factors which people do not consider while comparing.
• Sachin started his career in 1989 at the tender age of 16, and at the same time, India was not in a good position in fielding and bowling. The fitness level of those players was not so good compared to the current players.
• when Sachin used to play his shots, it looked glorious, which is missing in Virat's batting. Any day if Virat and Sachin are batting on two different grounds, I would see Sachin batting.
• Sachin played all kinds of shots during his time, but Kohli sticks to some limited shot selection. For example, Sachin could play a sweep, paddle sweep, late cut, uppercut, helicopter shot, etc.
• Sachin had to face all these deadly legendary pacers like Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath, Shoaib Akhtar, Curtly Ambrose, Shaun Pollock, carl hooper, Waqar Younis, steve waugh, etc.
• Sachin Tendulkar scored runs in all conditions. In England, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies. In comparison, we all know that what happens to Kohli's from outside the subcontinent when the ball starts moving, and there are potent bowlers to use that.
• Sachin Tendulkar played with no formidable support in the batting lineup. But Virat has Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the start and having a good finisher.
• Sachin was playing in a period where cricket was a bowlers game too. Now cricket is an entertainment and is tailor-made for batters. Thus the value of Sachin's runs are more compared to Kohli's
Virat does not show his talent in ODI World Cup and Champions trophy. Why. • Sachin was the highest scorer in the 1996 and 2003 world cup and the second-highest scorer in the 2011 world cup. He thus played a leading role whenever India did well on the big stage.
• Sachin played in a different era where DRS is not available, different ball, large boundaries of grounds, No free hit, etc.
"Virat is a popular cricketer in India, but Sachin is the one who made cricket popular In India ."
Lastly, the most vital one... The master remains the master !! Tendulkar will remain an inspiration for Indian cricket and every kid.
" Kohli may break Sachin records, but not his legacy."
VIRAT IS NOT ANOTHER SACHIN. SACHIN IS SACHIN FOR US, AND HE IS THE GOD OF CRICKET. GOD CANNOT BE REPLACED WHATSOEVER.
Thanks!!
