People are curious about what motivates people to grow their nails so long and how they manage their incredibly long nails on a daily basis.

We've put together a list of some of our most famous longest nail record-holders, both current and past.

Let's take a look at some of the world's greatest record-breakers and why they grow their nails so long.

Shridhar has the world's longest fingernails on a single hand.

Growing began in 1952.

Nails were cut in 2014,

and the record was verified in 2018.

The longest fingernails on a single hand ever were 909.6 cm in total length (358.1 in). Shridhar  (India), who grew the nails on his left hand, holds the record.

Shridar began growing his nails in 1952, following an incident with one of his professors.

Shridar and one of his pals had accidentally damaged the teacher's long nail, resulting in the teacher hitting Shridar and his companion.

"Unless you grow long nails, you will never appreciate the amount of care required not to break them," the teacher said when they inquired why he was so furious. Shridar and his friend then took it upon themselves to grow their own nails as a challenge.

Shridar's 66-year fixation with growing the nails on his left hand began with that challenge.

Shridar's life was made tough by his excessively long nails. His family, for starters, was against his goal and refused to wash his clothes. He struggled to find work and a wife as well.

However, he eventually became a photographer and married his brother's sister-in-law when he was 29 years old, using a camera with a bespoke handle.

Despite the difficulties he faced with his nails, he relished the attention he gained as a result of them, especially when he was awarded the Guinness World Records title.

"I felt like I had accomplished the biggest aim of my life after getting recognized by Guinness World Records" - Shridhar Chillal

Shridhar, however, at the age of 82, made the life-changing choice to chop his nails off.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! flew Shridhar to New York and coordinated the notable cutting, with the guarantee of showing the record-breaking nails in their attractions - conceding the wish Shridar communicated in 2014 of having his nails shown in a historical center.

In spite of the fact that he felt miserable subsequent to having his nails cut, Shridar said he was anticipating having the option to travel all the more effectively and meet companions and family members.

The nails are currently in plain view in the Ripley's Believe It or Not! galleries in New York and Amsterdam.
