Who discovered gravity?

Gravity is the force by which a planet or other body draws objects toward its center. It is the most significant interaction between objects and it determines the motion of planets, stars, galaxies, and even light.

The concept of gravity was known to humans since ancient times. In 3 rd century B C Greek philosopher Aristotle describe gravity as force of attraction where heavy objects are attracted towards earth. His idea was widely accepted throughout Ancient Greece.

Roman engineering and architecture Vitruvius in his work "De Architectura " describes  gravity  dependent on weight.Meanwhile, the Greek philosopher Plutarch correctly predicted that the attraction of gravity was not limited to  Earth.

In The mid 16 th century Italian physicist Giambattista Benedetti published papers claiming that, due to specific gravity, objects made of the same material but with different masses would fall at the same rate. Meanwhile Galileo correctly hypothesized that the distance of a falling object is proportional to the square of the time elapsed.

In 1687, Issac Newton published his work called 'Principia' ,which describes the laws of universal gravitation .

600 years later, Albert Einstein developed the theory of relativity, which significantly expanded upon and refined Newtonian classical mechanics, particularly in the realms of high speeds and strong gravitational fields.

In conclusion, gravity is a fundamental force of nature that has captivated human thought for centuries. From the early observations of ancient philosophers like Aristotle to the groundbreaking work of Newton and Einstein, our understanding of gravity has evolved significantly. While Newton's laws provide a robust framework for describing gravity in many everyday situations, Einstein's theory of relativity offers a more comprehensive and accurate picture, particularly in extreme conditions. The ongoing exploration of gravity continues to push the boundaries of our knowledge and inspire new discoveries about the universe.
