The rare blue shrimp caught here is one of the ten crore shrimps. On November 5, this bright blue lobster, or large shrimp, was caught off the coast of Casco by Bill Coppersmith. Bill Coppersmith is one of the employees of Get Maine Lobster, a company that has been contracted to catch shrimp in the area. This extraordinary lobster came into Bill's hands while fishing with his group.
Bill could tell by the color of the big shrimp he got his hands on. Yet Bill did not expect it to receive so much attention and news coverage. Bill named this blue lobster after his grandson Haddy. Recognizing the importance of this shrimp, Get Maine Lobster Company itself informed the world about it through social media. He then informed various scientific research centers.
Lobsters of different colors
Lobsters are found not only in blue, but also in pink, orange and pearly white. A spokesman for the Get Maine lobster company says that at least once every five years there are reports of rare colored lobsters being caught in this way. Bill Coppersmith himself has caught white and orange lobsters twice before. But they say this is the first time a blue lobster has been caught. Its color reflects changes in skin pigmentation. Astaxanthin is an antioxidant that affects the color of cells outside the body and determines the color of lobsters. Shrimp in this region are usually bright red in color. Lobsters are also found in other areas, including dark green and black.
However, this natural color can sometimes change to other colors due to changes in the composition of astaxanthin. It is in this situation that white, orange and blue shrimps are produced. Orange or brown lobsters are formed when there are slight changes in astaxanthin from normal. But when it comes to other colors, the difference in the amount of astaxanthin also increases. This is how the rare blue lobsters, as they are now found, are formed. These blue shrimps are also known as Cotton Candy Lobsters because of their proximity to the blue color of the fur-like candy called Cotton Candy.
What happened to the ‘Haddy’ lobster?
Everyone was wondering what happened to this lobster when the news was filled with the variety of Haddy Lobster color. Many wondered if lobster, by its very variety, would reach the table of any of the rich as a rare resource at a great price. But Get Maine Lobster has made it clear that there is no such thing as fear. Despite being captured by humans, Hadi was not seriously injured or injured. Haddy was handed over free of charge to Sea Coast Science, a research institute based in Maine. Haddy can stay here for a long time with other shrimp of similar colors.
Still one more question remains. That's why Haddy can't be let back into the sea. Due to the color variation, Haddy is not guaranteed a safe life at sea.
