The motto of the Azello Candle Company is "It is better to light a candle than to curse darkness". This candle maker has been in business since 1775. The business has been owned by the family for seven generations. Azello candles are known for their beauty and quality. Although they make more candles now than they did in 1775, their dedication to quality and customers has never changed.
The Azello Candle Company was founded by the Italian painter Raphael Azello. He was also a beekeeper, so he tried his hand at using beeswax to make candles. He worked very hard to come up with a formula that would work well. The formula, along with his outstanding artistic ability, led to the birth of the Azello Candle Company. In 1785, the company gained the honor of making all the candles for the Vatican. He and his wife have been running the business since childhood, involving their children in the processes. Over time, their children and grandchildren continued the business and handed over the family business to their children.
By 1862, the company had established itself as a leader in the candle making industry. He also added perfume and many colors to his delicate candle range. Decided to expand the business to Manhattan, New York. Business is booming in both places. The kings and nobles of Italy sought the services of the candle company of Azello. He designed candles for weddings, funerals and celebrations. He made candles for the inauguration of the King of Spain in 1876, Pope Pius IX in 1878 and Pope Leo in 1902. Hollywood stars and the wealthy in Beverly Hills, California also wanted candles from the Azelo Candle Company. The candles were also ordered by President Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh and Rudolf Valentino.
In 1922, the Azello Candle Company made a memorial candle for his late friend Enrico Caruso. The candle is 18 feet long and weighs more than a ton. It is estimated that this candle burns 24 hours a day for 1,800 years before the wax runs out. This large commemorative candle remains the largest candle ever made in the world. Twice each year it is lit to commemorate the birthday of Enrico Caruso and the day he died.
Azello Candle Company continued to grow and sales in both Italy and the United States grew better than expected. In 1953 the company was asked to make 2,200 candles for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. The company was honored to fulfill the request and all the candles were ready in six months. Azello contacted the candle company to buy, but refused. The family wanted their candle business to remain intact rather than a large company.
Despite the creative efforts of the Azello Candle Company, they were unable to meet the demand for their candles during the 1965 blackout in New York City. In the age of computers, the Azello candle company discovered the supply of candles via the Internet. Ironically, Rafael Azello worked around the clock to make candles for this need, while his wife gave birth to their baby at the hospital to find candles for their room.
Azello Candle Company continues to be strong even today, offering quality candles made with beautiful and best quality products. These candles can be purchased at many specialty stores around the world as well as from the comfort of our homes on the Internet. The candle making business has spanned many generations, although Raphael Azello, who started the business two centuries ago, upholds traditions and values.
