Which side should India choose ? Russia or America?

The biggest International news currently is 'Ukraine'. Everyone is taking sides of either Russia or America, but some countries are neutral which include India who has good relations with both the countries. So what should be India's stand? Should India support America or be with Russia? For this answer, let us go back in history. When India became Independent, Stalin was the President of the Soviet Union. Stalin was not a Pro Indian, therefore he always criticized India. But after Stalin, when Nikita Khrushchev came to power he visited India and rebuilt USSR's ties with India, which are still intact. When India was fighting the 1971 war with Pakistan, America and Britain decided to help Pakistan and sent their Naval forces to India. India immediately gave an SOS to Russia and asked Russia for its help. Russia immediately sent its Naval forces and stopped Britain and America from entering the territory of India. India's 60% percent defense material comes from Russia. India and Russia are also part of big International Alliances such as UN, BRICS, SCO, etc. Bilateral trade between India and Russia is at 8 billion USD which both countries have decided to take up to 25 billion USD, in coming years. Russia has always supported India on the Kashmir issue. When India tested its nuclear weapons, America lectured India, but Russia praised India for its peaceful testing. Russia has always supported India at the UN. Russia is also neutral on the India-China dispute. Vladimir Putin came to India on 6th of December for only 2 hours, but these two hours signify the strength of the India-Russia relationship. This was Putin's second visit outside Russia after the pandemic. He skipped big platforms like the G20, COP26, etc. but went to meet PM Narendra Modi. Indian PM Narendra Modi and Putin hold a significant relationship. Both the countries visit each other every year for bilateral talks. Geography wise also Russia is important for India. If India decides to go with America, Russia will choose China, which will be a nightmare for India as the USA has never helped India and the USA is known for ditching allies. India has the best relation with the USA now as compared to last few decades. USA to need India for chasing China and Russia needs India for its support on the International level. Recently a QUAD has been formed consisting of Japan, Australia, USA and India which will work for the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific. Russia fears if India goes towards the west and ditches it. Russia has told India that they will carry a special operation regarding the evacuation of Indian nationals stuck in Ukraine and help them return to India safely. This is the power of good relations, and India needs it. Currently, for India, China is a big worry and for it India needs both USA and Russia. Therefore, going with either side will not help. In the future, India will certainly need to choose sides, but for now all depends upon how the Ukraine crises end.
