The first Cricket World Cup was held in England in 1975. The first three matches were also designated as the Prudential Cup, thanks to the sponsorship of Prudential plc, a financial services business.
Cricket matches were 60 overs per player and were played with the traditional white clothing and red balls. The matches were only held during the day, and the event is held every four years.
Until the 1992 Cricket World Cup, only eight teams competed in the competition. Later on, the number of teams was undoubtedly raised, and the Cricket World Cup 2007 had 16 teams.
England, New Zealand, India, East Africa, Australia, the West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka took part in 1975, and again in 1979 East Africa took the position of Canada. Zimbabwe entered the arena in 1983, when Canada was out.

By 1996, the number of teams had expanded to 12 with the addition of three new groups from the UAE, the Netherlands, and Kenya. During the 1999 Cricket World Cup, the UAE and the Netherlands took the place of Bangladesh and Scotland.
England hosted the first three meetings in a row, while the 1987 encounter was the first to be held outside of England. The 1987 Cricket World Cup saw the introduction of unbiased umpires. The 1996 Cricket World Cup began.
