Britain's longest-reigning Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96 in Belmoral. He ruled Britain for 70 years.
His family gathered at his residence in Scotland on Thursday after concerns were expressed over his health.
Elizabeth became Queen in 1952 and saw massive social change during her reign.
After his death, his eldest son and former Prince of Wales Charles will become the new King of Great Britain and head of the 14 Commonwealth of Nations.
In a statement, King Charles said: 'The death of my beloved mother the Queen is a moment of great sadness for me and all my family.'that 'We are mourning the death of a beloved ruler and a much-loved mother. I know that his death will be felt by countless people across the country and the Commonwealth, as well as the world.'
King Charles says it is comforting for him and his family during this time of grief and change that the Queen is being remembered with respect and affection.
Charles III arrives in London from Belmoral on Friday and is expected to address the nation this evening.The date of Queen Elizabeth's funeral has not yet been announced, but an official ceremony is expected within two weeks.
Buckingham Palace has announced that the royal family will be in mourning from Friday until seven days after the funeral. A statement from Buckingham Palace said: 'Following the death of Her Majesty the King, it is His Majesty's wish that royal mourning be observed from now until seven days after the Queen's funeral.'
The royal mourning will be celebrated by 'the royal family, staff of the royal household, and representatives of the royal family performing formal duties, and soldiers performing ceremonial duties'.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who was appointed to the post by Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday, said the queen "gave us the stability and strength we needed."
