The MCU is constantly expanding, and there are a few upcoming Marvel films that fans can't wait to see. The most notable is Ryan Coogler's Black Panther 2, which must honor both Chadwick Boseman and his character King T'Challa.
Anthony Mackie, a Marvel star, has provided an exciting update on the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Mackie first appeared in the MCU as Sam Wilson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, and he has since graduated to become Captain America himself, succeeding Chris Evans.
Mackie revealed the new Black Panther film is currently "in the can" in a recent interview with Laverne Cox for E! News during the 2022 Grammy Awards.
"I'm very excited to say that they just wrapped filming on Black Panther 2," he announced, eliciting a gasp from Cox.
"It's going to be incredible, spectacular."
When Cox tried to get a second scoop by asking if Mackie had also joined the Wakanda Forever cast, he dismissed the idea.
"I am not, But I've seen, I've been there, and I've heard. I can't wait for everyone to see Black Panther 2. It's in the can, it's on its way out, and it's finished."
Tell us more, please! Anthony Mackie is a seasoned MCU veteran who is wary of revealing too much about any upcoming project. But, given the number of Black Panther fans out there, there is even more excitement and speculation about the contents of Wakanda Forever. Although it's disappointing that we won't see a surprise appearance by the new Captain America.
Fortunately, not all hope is lost, as Marvel is known for keeping certain actors' appearances in their films under wraps, as well as editing trailers to conceal spoilers.
Mackie had previously been tight-lipped about whether his character would appear in the next Black Panther film.
In an interview with ET last year, he stated:
"I have a Wakanda visa, so I can visit Wakanda whenever I want. I have a passport, a Wakanda visa, and am immunized, so I can travel to Wakanda."
Anthony Mackie isn't the only one who's been promoting the plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda, has also stated that it may be better than the original, which is a bold claim given the film's massive success and numerous Oscar nominations. We'll just have to wait and see how the story unfolds and who becomes the new Panther.
The film's future had been uncertain for some time following the untimely death of its main star, Chadwick Boseman, in August 2020.
It has since been confirmed that, while the role of T'Challa will not be recast, the sequel will go ahead and honor Boseman's legacy.
Danny Sapani, who will reprise his role as M'Kathu, recently expressed his excitement for the "incredible film" they'd been working on.
"Obviously, things are very different without Chad. But we're going to keep flying that flag and telling that story because it's an incredible story and film."
Well, color me intrigued. While news of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapping production broke last week as a result of a crew member's post, it appears that Anthony Mackie has access to more information than the rest of us. Marvel Security is notoriously tight, but being the man with the shield must pay.
The release date for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is November 11, 2022. The first film is now available on Disney+.
