Which Is Switchgrass A Viable Energy Crop?

Re-grown grass has long been a staple crop for farmers. It is used as fodder for farm animals, petrol, and electricity, as a way to prevent and control soil erosion.

However, when President Bush introduced the Bio fuels Initiative during the 2006 State of the Nation Address, he prioritized the use of traditional grasses as energy crops.

The Bio fuels Initiative is an integral part of the president's plans for advanced energy. It seeks to reduce national dependence on foreign oil suppliers by more than 75 percent of oil sales by 2025.

The aim is to achieve this through non-biomass-based foods, such as agricultural waste, trees, forest residues, grass and especially to replace long-lasting grass to produce energy.

When distilled, switch grass produces ethanol, the alcohol that dominates cars. At present, ethanol accounts for 15 to 85 percent of gasoline and is sold as E-85.

Replace the grass or Tall Panic Grass for a shorter plant. Increased flexibility because they are not grown in different parts of the world's changing climates. It is also drought tolerant.

From planting to care and harvest, it costs less energy to produce a biofuel from grass instead.

Harvest every year

Switch is long-lived, which means harvest twice a year for 10 years, before the plants are replanted. It also grows faster, absorbs solar energy, and converts it into cellulose. Ethanol is extracted from cellulose by distillation.

Maximum yield per hectare

Results from 19 BEF SDP (Bio energy feed stock Development) research centers in both the Eastern and Central United States show that the conversion of tons of grass harvested by 15 hectares. When degraded in ethanol, this provides 1,500 liters per hectare of ethanol. When measured on a six-year basis, this means a yield of 115,000 liters of ethanol per hectare.

Cost works well

The results of a study conducted by the University of California, Berkeley found that it requires more energy to produce gasoline than to produce ethanol.

Multiple use

Expected technological development gas will showcase other essential oils: diesel fuel, methane gas, and methanol.

It does not care about nature

Changing the grass does not endanger the fertility of the soil as it adds organic matter.

Growing grass has a complex system of stems and roots. This system penetrates deep into the ground to hold it in place, preventing erosion.

Grass engineering that keeps the buffer reliable. Farmers plant this grass near wetlands and blankets to filter out pesticides and prevent these harmful chemicals from entering the water.

Transplant grass and remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and return it to the soil. On the other hand, fossil fuels, which release large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, increase air pollution and worsen the effects of greenhouse gases.

It works financially

It is less expensive to grow flexible grasses. If you add government tax rebates and grants without grass and engineering will increase fuel waste.

Is there a plot of land to plant grass? We need to establish a certification system for changing grasses and food plants.

The use of grasses changes as energy and determines their potential from the economy, production, and environmental factors.

However, the success of the grassroots transformation will depend on these key factors: government policies and funding, R&D efforts, technological advances and vehicle performance.
