The Glycemic Index provides an exciting, legal, scientific study of the many carbohydrates we eat. It measures and measures how these carbohydrates enter the bloodstream. And by doing so it provides a way to get closer to food in order to be legally nutritious, and to prevent hunger. This is one of the ways to prevent overeating. And it is a great way for parents to try and curb their children's craving for junk food. Glycemic index determines whether carbohydrates have a high, low or medium glycemic index. And the idea is to eat a lot of foods with a low or moderate glycemic index, and very low. Foods with a low glycemic index slowly enter the bloodstream, so they do not raise blood sugar levels as high glycemic index foods. So, what is carbohydrate? All sugars, or foods broken down into sugars, are carbohydrates. These include regular sugar, glucose (commonly used in sports drinks), fructose, (fruit), lactose, (found in milk and other products such as yogurt), maltose, (found in malt commonly used in grain flavors). All kinds of starch, from potatoes to noodles and pasta, as well as vegetables, such as lentils and peas (although these also have some protein). Fruits are considered low GI (not fruit juice yet). Interestingly, however, recent research has found that the link between fructose and obesity is believed. However, the type of fructose studied was corn syrup, which is a refined and concentrated form of fructose. It also lacks the beneficial fiber, antioxidants and other phytochemicals the fruit makes. This was also the first study to be done on an animal model, so it may not work in humans. Researchers at the University of Florida found that fructose could make people believe they were more hungry than they should be. And when these researchers disrupted fructose production, rats became obese, even though they still ate fructose. This is not the first study to suggest that fructose can be linked to weight loss habits, much more than other diets. A study conducted at the University of Cincinnati found that eating fructose (a high fructose corn syrup), leads to greater fat storage. They say that the body processes fructose differently from other types of sugar, though, it is not clear if this reduction is probably the low fructose concentration in fruit compared to the corn syrup used in the study. A study conducted at the University of Florida found that there are high levels of uric acid in the blood after eating or drinking fructose. This increase in uric acid affects insulin, by blocking it. Insulin controls how our cells store and process fat. If uric acid levels rise too high, then the symptoms of metabolic syndrome may increase. These symptoms include high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and obesity. People used many soda drinks, so if you drink a lot of soda, it will be easier for you to increase uric acid levels in your blood. Metabolic syndrome is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Symptoms of metabolic syndrome include abdominal fat, so much so that the waist looks as big as hips or large. There are usually low levels of good blood cholesterol levels, and high levels of triglycerides make the blood ‘sticky’. Metabolic syndrome is associated with an insatiable reaction to insulin, to produce high levels of glucose in the blood. All of these things can be checked by a doctor.
