Very few people know the profound effect that weight has on diabetes. Even cases of gestational diabetes are more common in overweight patients than those who are not. Type 2, or adult onset diabetes, is more commonly found in people who are overweight than those who are within their 'ideal' weight range.   If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or are labeled at risk for this devastating condition, there are things you can do to help yourself. First, take off the pounds. I know it's easier said than done. Dieting is never easy for the average person and rarely fun. However, if you don't start taking drastic steps toward achieving the best possible health for yourself, you might not be able to enjoy the quality of life you've planned for your golden years. Let your situation be your inspiration, and make plans to enjoy watching your grandchildren and great-grandchildren graduate college.

Stand up and fight,  don't sit around and let diabetes take control. Stand up and take your body back under your control. It is a fight till the end and if you leave it, diabetes will be your end. If you fight it by standing up, losing weight, getting out there and exercising, listen and follow your doctor's orders. Find the strength within you to fight this disease steadfastly. You'd be surprised at what happens when you decide to stand up and fight for your health.

Be active, find activities you enjoy and get out there and do them. Don't even make those activities passive activities. Even if it's just going to play shuffleboard every day, get out there and play. Enjoy your time in the sun. Pick flowers with the little ones. Take golf. Do whatever it takes to get up and move every day to remember why you want to be forever in the first place.

Watch what you eat. Trash in, trash out, isn't it? You have strict dietary requirements once you've been diagnosed with diabetes. This means that you must strictly follow your dietary restrictions. Learn to live within those limits in order to live and enjoy life to the fullest. The amazing thing is that there are all kinds of foods available that are friendly to people with diabetes that just a few years ago weren't. Living and eating with diabetes is quite possible if you stick to your plan. T H N K Y O U
