We all know a hypocrite. You know, the person who threatens to destroy your organization by using every vile tactic in the book to advance his careers, regardless of effects it has on others. Warriors, Workers, Whiners, and Weasels: The 4 type of Personality in Business and How to Manage Them for Your Benefits through entrepreneur Tim O’Leary takes a fresh look at the different personalities we encounter and how to handle them and be done of them.
The basic premise of the book is that each character fits into one of four personality groups – Warrior, Worker, Whiner, or Weasel. O’Leary describes each one as the following:
The fighters who fight change, see the possibilities, innovate and manage to win.
Workers, who deal with the ups, downs and challenges of everyday corporate life with confidence, and who can reliably implement the change and direction building made by the Warriors.
Whispers, who spend their lives complaining about everything they do, wherever they go, they claim negativity and dissatisfaction, and blame others for their own shortcomings.
Hypocrite, who hide everywhere and endanger your career and life goals through his own deception and insecurity, and who spreads these emotions rapidly throughout the organization.
This book is specially designed to help you identify which group you fit into, provide you with the basic tools to reach the group you want to be in, and learn that how to deal effectively with a group of people.
This book really does a great job of forcing you to analyze yourself honestly. O’Leary warns you that what you find may not be to your liking, but also is quick to emphasizes that you are in control and that you can make the changes in your life, so that fit into the group that you want.
Even more interesting (and fun) is imagining the people you know and put them into their proper categories. We have all encountered a Whiner or Weasel, and it helps us to know what ticks them and how to deal with them effectively, So that they do not negatively affect your life. O’Leary uses the metaphor of the common cold – you can’t completely eliminate hypocrite or Weasels from your life, but you can take precautions to determine the frequency at which they enter your life and harm they caused you when they are part of your life.
O'Leary uses light-hearted humor with a very intense attitude to combine a business book and a self-help book in a passionate way.
One chapter may focus on self-analysis, the next one may focus on personal stories from O’Leary’s experiences, and the next may be about poetry or management.
This book is consist of 200 pages, but it is reading at the speed of half a book. I often found myself reading several chapters in a sitting, which is a testament to the author's ability to keep readers interested. If there’s one downside (and it’s not more of one), it’s that O’Leary is so ruthlessly honest that it could be wrong for some people, especially for those who belong to the Whispers and hypocrite groups.
Warriors, Workers, Whiners, and Weasels: The 4 type of Personality in Business and How to organize them for Your Benefits by Tim O’Leary is a must-read for each and every entrepreneur, business owner, manager, and worker who want to learn more about themselves, take advantage of their best qualities, and protect themselves from those who could sabotage their career.
