The ATVs (all the cars of the world) we know today have the lowest start in the highlands of Japan. Roads in the muddy mountains made it difficult for farmers to travel during the spring solstice and it was almost impossible to travel by regular cars or heavy machinery. The Japanese, who are always in the habit of changing and pushing with something until they can improve it, created a three-wheeled ATV. This car does wonders by helping local farmers. ATVs were less expensive than large farm cars and seemed to be a very good little horse. The Japanese did not stop there, however. ATV manufacturers are taking a step further and realize that they can market ATVs to Americans. America had nothing like ATV and the first ATV came to our shores in the early 1970s. Honda was the forerunner of ATV, and had a proven track record of selling motorcycles in America, having introduced the Honda Cub to millions of Americans just ten years earlier. The successful marketing slogan “Meet the best people in Honda” came at a time when cyclists had a bad reputation and proved to people that the average Joe could enjoy car racing. By the 1970's, Honda had a reputation for building reliable, state-of-the-art equipment and their ATV was no different. In this case the marketing plan will be to show people how fun boarding ATVs can be. Thirty years ago the Honda US90 first appeared and was called the ATC90. Sadly, ATV's original intent may have started off against the spectrum from ATV's Japanese working class, but in the end the results were the same. After gaining popularity as a luxury car, ATV quickly became famous as a functional car as Americans began to see how powerful this three-wheeled car could be. ATV proved to be of great benefit to the working class person. First and foremost, the ATV was cheaper to operate than a tractor or freight truck and in the middle of the 70's gas crunch was more inclusive. ATVs were also easy to navigate in tight terrain and could travel on almost any type of terrain. The problem that people found was the wheels. The front ATV tires had low pressure and while this worked well in mud or sand, the tires easily pierced when traveling in sharp terrain, such as harvested fields or sharp rocks. All in all, ATV did a job that no other heavy piece of equipment could do. The original tires were also non-repairable. In 1975 the hubless wheel design was replaced by steel hangers and a wheel made of solid fabric inside. Solid plastic wrap was added. This time they produce fenders in bright colors to make the forest look better. As the popularity of ATV grew, Japanese engineers did not give up their research and development. They had a good thing going on and they were determined to make it better. Their engineers went into the field to see how the ATVs worked and began collecting data to help with the next round of changes. By the 1980's, ATVs were moving in the same way as dirty bicycles and motorcycles. ATVs were used as an aid vehicle and race. More and more people are buying ATVs by riding off-road and competing in races such as motocross events. By 1985 the use of ATV had dropped from only 30% in the 70's to 80%. In 1988, Honda made another amazing move with the ATV design, introducing the FourTrax 300 and a second model called the FourTrax 300 4 × 4. So far ATV still has three wheels, now Honda has added another wheel and provided ATV with four-wheel drive, which gives it stability and power. They also installed a FourTrax four-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled engine that provided a five-speed transmission, automatic clutch and maintainance free drive shaft. Honda has also considered giving the FourTrax a low-cost extra gear pulling 850 lbs. Today, ATVs are completely focused on our lifestyle. You can find ATVs on dirt bike trails, on farms, on construction sites and dozens of other places. Now countries around the world are getting the same thing the American people do; ATV is a fun and efficient car to handle a variety of tasks almost anywhere.
