Which 10 subtle behaviours that will lose you respect

Quick speech

For a variety of reasons, including being buzzed on coffee and excited about what we're saying, many of us speak quickly. There are complexities in this situation, as there always are, and it might sometimes be beneficial to speak at a comparable pace to your opponent. But this frequently conveys the notion that you don't feel confident in your speech. It's like snatching a hot cake and abruptly tossing it away. We can find the proper words much more easily, putting others at rest, and people will have more faith in what we're saying when we give ourselves time to speak.

A lack of focus

Being attentive and listening to someone in person is not a sign of submission. It's not cool to be on your phone while having a discussion. You appear to be a child as a result. Join someone else there. Be interested and show that you are interested. There is a force to presence. This will draw people to you more than anything else.

Too quick to agree

When I'm talking to someone and they eagerly agree with everything I say and very rarely disagree, I can't help but become bored. This does not need you to act aggressively or negatively. However, consenting to everyone and everything is like adding water to paint. It weakens your identity in my eyes.

Interrupting

In the contemporary, distracted age, I observe this happening at an apparently accelerating rate. If I'm talking and you can't hold back from adding your two cents, that's annoying. But it seems like a lot of people put up with this. The speaker might let you completely ignore what they had to say, but they secretly don't respect you for it. Allow others to finish their sentences and accept a few pauses in a conversation. Cutting in clearly shows that we have little confidence in our own words. Why?

We constantly feel the need to prove ourselves, which prevents us from taking a leading role and letting the other person have their space.

Taking things too seriously

I've done this before because I have a tendency to overthink things. No matter the situation, find methods to have fun. Don't be the man who fills a room with negativity and drains its energy. When you have judgmental thoughts and actions, this occurs. Be jovial and concentrate on uplifting those around you.

Avoiding critical incidents

Using courage in your conversation is referred to as a "critical incident." Telling the truth. Being ready to speak out against the advice of others. The suitability of the chosen topics depends on the stage of the relationship you are in with the other person as well as the surrounding circumstances. However, if you consistently ignore "edgier" topics or harsher language to avoid offending anyone, you will be perceived as being merely "nice." That's fine, but do you want to leave a legacy of "nice"?

Devaluing your time

What else does that say about you if you're willing to put everything else aside to assist us? Maintaining one's self-respect is not the same as pleasing others. Many find it difficult to acquire this lesson. We all learned as children the benefits of winning over our parents and instructors. In the adult world, this is not applicable. It is not empowering to appease others at the expense of your freedom and integrity. Honor yourself first, instead. Make sure you both benefit from helping others if you do decide to do so; that is, do it out of a real want to help, not out of a desire to impress.

Self-analyzing

Growing up, I had an issue with being extremely concerned about how I was coming across and what I was saying. In an effort to be liked, I would constantly review what I had said when chatting with others. Because of my self-control, I was never a part of the conversation; instead, I was thinking about it. Ironically, this reduces our performance even further, and you will lose workers.

In response to criticism

It's simple to think that not responding to criticism from others is a cowardly move. We must respond if someone disrespects us, right? We must be strong and put them down. No, Reacting implies that you aren't at ease in your own skin and that you have something to defend and establish. People immediately recognize the lack-based foundation of this strategy. Instead, grin, make light of the situation, and continue.

Relying on results

Alternatively put: having a need. Humans are particularly sensitive to other people's needs. We might be desperate to get that client sale or get her to agree to a second date. Dependence on a "successful" result taints our behavior in the present. We become tense. When things don't go as planned, we get upset. Our effectiveness is compromised. It quickly lowers our perceived status because it gives the impression that we don't have many options.
