Wherever you look, there are diamonds; Ghost town today ...

One hundred years ago, it was the richest place in the world. Most of the wealth was in the hands of the people who lived here. But coming here today, no one can believe that there was such a past. A lot has changed.

In the middle of the desert ....

Colemanscope, a famous ghost town in the Namibia Desert, is located not far from the port city of Lüderitz in southern Namibia. It was once a city famous for its diamonds. Today it looks abandoned. It was famous as a diamond mining city. If you visit this place now, it looks like a desert-swallowing area. It feels like a community fighting against this and a city that includes.

 Now to the story ...

In 1908, while working on a railway line running through the desert, an employee named Zacharias found a shining stone on the ground. He showed the stone to his German master. Realizing that it was not an ordinary stone, he found more shiny stones in the search. And realized that it was a precious diamond. The place was also found to be full of diamonds. The news spread like wildfire. The Germans began to arrive in droves. Everyone's only wanted to mine diamonds.

It was not long before the German government declared it a no-go zone. This was done to acquire the entire diamond before it was taken away by private individuals. The diamond was found in this place in an unbelievable way. It is hard to believe that diamonds could simply be picked up from the ground. It is estimated that one million-carat diamonds were discovered here in 1912, four years after the first diamond was discovered in 1908.

This figure is shocking - it accounts for 12% of world diamond production. Don't you understand the value of the desert land now? Two years later, in 1914, more than 1,000 kilograms of diamonds were discovered here. There were only about a thousand people in this town at that time.

  When wealth increases ...

As wealth accumulated through diamonds, so did the pride of the Kolmanskop . Many wanted to build an empire like Germany here. A city like the one in Germany with all the amenities has sprung up here. Homes, hospitals, theaters, casinos, bars, schools, and factories rose. They searched all over the desert for diamonds. They even took the diamonds from here in huge trucks. By 1930, however, the diamond collection began to dwindle. Following this, people started evacuating from this place. People started moving in search of a place with a diamond collection about 300 km away from here.

The current state of the city ...

Today, the city has become a ghost town. Looking at the ruins that can be seen here now, it is unbelievable that this was once a glorious city. No houses or other buildings can be seen now. Everything was demolished years ago. In the 1980s, the mining company De Beers restored several buildings and established an interesting museum.

It has now become a tourist destination. What Kolmanskop now has is another kind of beauty. There are thousands of opportunities for photographers to take great photos. The city has been used extensively in the 1993 film Dust Devil, the 2000 film The King is Alive, and the 2010 television series Life of People. The place has been filmed, including the BBC series 'Wonders of the Universe' ...
