In my role as the UK Operations Director of One World Tours Limited, one of my responsibilities is to ensure that every client has the best possible tours, so here are my top suggestions for sites you can host during your holiday in Hong Kong.
1. I would recommend that riding a Star Ferry across the harbor is a must feel. It is heartwarming to see the people living in the harbor fishing and the city center. There is also an amazing floating restaurant in the harbor where you can find delicious cooking.
2. Taking a tram to the top of Victoria Peak is also something you can get if you make the effort to go to Hong Kong.
Dirt is something you can feel for yourself and getting to the top can be done better before it gets too bad if you wish to see the scenery. Often even though the view is wrong, there are a few guys who will take your picture and put it up in the picture of what you will see on a clear day - it is so much fun!
3. Ocean Park is an amusement park full of air. There is the popular Dragon Roller Coaster, Ferris wheel, and more with a white knuckle ride. There is a marine park with Shark Aquarium that will appeal to young tourists heading to Hong Kong.
You will also see a traditional Chinese-style village where street shows add vibrant color to the atmosphere.
4. Wong Tai Sin is the most famous temple in the city and also the busiest. The temple is an amazing example of a traditional Chinese temple. The highlight of my visit to the temple was the cloud of smoke and the aroma of freshly lit incense. The Chinese believe that by burning these sticks they will be lucky. It is free to visit the temple (donations are welcome).
5. Yuen Po Street Bird Market. There are hundreds of rare birds in rare cages as bird buying seems to be a business issue in Hong Kong. People spend hours with these birds and I was informed that customers will only buy a bird if the bird chooses them. It is considered unfortunate to buy an unhappy bird as the happiness of the birds is very important to Hong Kongians.
6. If you are a shopaholic then a visit to Stanley Market is a must. You will be able to pick up the bargains for a fraction of the sale price in the city. This is a good time to note that you should not buy anything from a big city without a name/board in front of the store. Shopkeepers at these stores may take your money and tell you that they have no stock in stock. Then they take the details of your hotel and promise to bring your paid items to your hotel and guess what? They don't.
Repulse Bay is Hong Kong's most famous beach, apparently named after the British military, which had spotted some criminals in ancient times! This is a popular Chinese place and can be so crowded that there is no place to stay!
November is the best time to travel if you want to avoid rushing and the temperature is still quite comfortable at 70 degrees.
