At the heart of our solar system, our Sun, a 4.5 billion-year-old star, is a hot, glowing ball of hydrogen and helium. The distance between the Sun and Earth is around 93 million miles (150 million kilometers), and without the Sun's energy, life as we know it would not be possible on our planet. The largest body in our solar system is the Sun. To fill the volume with the Sun, 1.3 million mounds of the earth would be required. The largest planets and the smallest pieces of junk are all in orbit around it thanks to its gravity, which also binds the solar system together. The Sun's core is the hottest region, with temperatures that exceed 27 million degrees Fahrenheit (15 million degrees Celsius). The Sun exerts an influence on the nature of space across the solar system through its tremendous eruptions and a continuous stream of charged particles. With a fleet of satellites, NASA and other international space agencies continuously observe the Sun, researching everything from its atmosphere to its surface and even peeping inside the Sun with specialized instruments. Parker Solar Probe, Solar Orbiter, SOHO, ACE, IRIS, WIND, Hi node, Solar Dynamics Observatory, and STEREO are some of the spacecraft that have been used to study the sun. The sun was captured by the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory, "laughing." These shadowy areas, known as coronal holes when viewed in ultraviolet light, are places where the solar wind is ejected quickly into space. The United Kingdom's Science and Technology Facilities Council responded by adding a pumpkin to the image and converting it into a Jack-O-Lanterns, while NASA's official Twitter account simply referred to it as a "smiling" sun. Other viewers spotted a lion, a blobfish, the Stay Pfft Marshmallow Man from "Ghostbusters," as well as other snack foods with cheerful faces. However, the dark regions that make up the face pattern are coronal holes, which, according to the space agency, show up as erratic black patches when the sun is scanned in ultraviolet light or some types of X-ray pictures. Coronal holes seem darker because they are less dense and less heated than their surroundings. They may suddenly appear on the solar surface. Additionally, the magnetic field structure of these objects creates coronal holes that unleash streams of charged particles, or solar wind, at velocities of more than one million miles per hour. The strength of these winds allows them to reach Earth. Solar wind activity is mostly refracted by our planet's magnetic field, which serves as a shield, while it has the potential to damage the atmosphere. Such photographs of the sun are frequently taken by the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, which also keeps a near-constant eye on its activity. The Living With a Star Program of the space agency, which aims to study how solar activity affects our home planet and the space between the stars, includes the orbiting observatory, which was launched in 2010. Since the beginning of time, the Sun has inspired mankind.
