Imagine a world without dinosaurs, but where a diverse bunch of marine alternatives had their celebrity status instead. This is a world that did exist over 175 years ago. The word dinosaur and the scientific concept of dinosaurs as a group of extinct animals was not invented until 1842. Before then, the discovery of many remarkable marine reptile fossils, especially ichthyosaurs(sea dragon), captivated the public imagination in the way that dinosaurs do today.
friends in england we have found such a big skeleton of sea dragon(sea horse). After which scientists are also splits. The fossil is believed to be the biggest and most complete skeleton found on that date, it was discovered by Joe Davis, Conservation Team Leader at Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.
It has discovered a large sea creature’s fossilised remains from the bottom of a lagoon in England(180 million years old in the Midland area). The million of years ago extinct animal like sea dragon(sea horses) giants size can be estimated bt the skeleton of it's head which is almost 1 ton in weight. The fossil was discovered by 48-year-old Joe Davis in February 2021.
This is believe to be the biggest creature in the history of Britain. According to scientists , the heigth of the sea dragon is considered to be 30 feet in length. And it looks a lot similar to a Dolphin. After the finding of this new dragon skeleton the mysteries about existence of dragons have increased. There name is Ichthyosaurs.
Ichthyosaurs first came into existence in the world about 250 million years ago and they became extinct from the earth 90 million years ago.
The largest animals on the planet, the Antarctic blue whale, can reach up to 30 metres in length, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
Ichthyosaur expert Dean Lomax said he was excited by the find.
"Not only is this the largest ichthyosaur skeleton ever found in Britain, but it's also the largest complete skeleton of any prehistoric reptile found here in the UK as well, which is an amazing, amazing find."
Recently, a team of scientists in America discovered ichthyosaurs from the time of dinosaurs. The length of this creature has been seen up to 55 feet. Research has shown that the size of these fish-sized marine aquatics increased very rapidly about 240 million years ago. The size of the head of this creature has been measured to be 6.5 feet.
What is Ichthyosaurs ?
Ichthyosaurs are large extinct marine reptiles. Ichthyosaurs belong to the order known as Ichthyosauria or Ichthyopterygia.
Ichthyosaur is a member of an extinct group of aquatic reptiles, most of which were very similar to porpoises in appearance and habits.Although they superficially have a similar shape and they exploit similar environmental niches, we know that ichthyosaurs are reptiles and thus they are not dolphins (mammals) nor sharks (fish). Those were the distant relatives of lizards and snakes (lepidosaurs) were the most highly specialized aquatic reptiles, but ichthyosaurs were not dinosaurs. Ichthyosaurs had a very wide geographic distribution, and their fossil remains span almost the entire Mesozoic Era (251 million to 65.5 million years ago); but they were most abundant and diverse during the Triassic and Jurassic periods (251 million to 145.5 million years ago.
