Lice are a common name for any member of the Phthiraptera clade, which contains about 5,000 species of wingless insects. Phthiraptera has been recognized differently as an order, infraorder, or parvorder, due to advances in phylogenetic research.
🔸 THERE ARE THREE KINDS OF LICE.
Insects - Lice
🔸Head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis),
🔸Pediculus humanus corporis (body lice, clothing lice), as well.
🔸Pthirus pubis (“crab” lice, genital lice).
🔸Lice are spread by direct contact with infected person's hair. The cause of head lice is not related to hygiene. Some animals, such as cats and dogs, do not play a role in infection. Head lice only take human blood and can live on human hair.
🔸Lice are transmitted to another host by contact with a nearby person. When an uninfected person should come in contact with an infected person. Sharing camps, brushes, towels, hats and other personal items can speed up the spread of head lice.
🔸The eggs attach to the hair through the release of female lice. The eggs take about a week to hatch, producing bees. The unions then go through three consecutive stages of growth. Between these particles, they molt until adult size.
The life cycle of lice
The lice go through three stages:
Eggs hatch after 6 to 9 days.
Nymphs, immature species of lice that mature into 9 to 12 days.
Adult lice, which can live 3 to 4 weeks. The female louse lays 6 to 10 eggs in a day.
Symptoms:-
Common signs and symptoms of head lice can be:
🔸Itching. The most common symptom of head lice is itching on the head, neck, and ears. This is an allergy to lice bites. If a person has head lice for the first time, itching may not occur within 4 to 6 weeks.
🔸Lice on the head. You may be able to see lice, but they are often difficult to detect because they are small, avoid light, and move quickly.
🔸Lice eggs (nits) in the hair follicles. Nits stick to the hair follicles and may be difficult to detect because they are very small. They are easily seen on the ears and neck. Empty nits may be easy to spot because they are light in color and far from the scalp. However, the presence of lice does not mean that there are lice.
🔸Sores on the head, neck and shoulders. Itching can cause small, red spots that can sometimes become infected.
Causes
A head lice is a tan or gray insect that is the size of a strawberry seed. It eats human blood on the head. The female louse produces a sticky substance that attaches to each egg at the base of a hairpin less than 1/4 inch (5 mm) from the head.
🔸When will you see a doctor?
Consult a healthcare provider before starting treatment if you suspect that you or your child has head lice. Your healthcare provider or your child can make sure that head lice are present. Studies show that many children have been treated for head lice with illicit drugs or home remedies when they were free of lice.
Common misconceptions about nits include:
Dandruff
Residues from hair products
Beads of dead hair tissue on the hair shaft
Cust, dirt or other debris
Some tiny insects are found on the hair
