Building a website isn't exactly a cut-and-dry process. A plethora of goods and services available may either assist you in getting your website to where you want it to be, or just confuse you. It's also critical that you make the appropriate decisions up front so that you don't need to reorganize your entire website due to a design flaw. Mastery of several of these software products might require anything from a small period of time to a large length of time. As a result, I believe it's critical to be guided in the "correct" way so that you don't waste time in the wrong areas or learn software that may or may not be useful.
Where you should begin relies largely on what you want to accomplish and how far you want to go. You can probably get away with some basic understanding of HTML, competence with a good WYSIWYG editor, and an image editing tool for a somewhat professional, clean-looking website without a lot of automation or heavily animated graphics. On the other hand, if you want to create something that will really impress your audience, you should invest some time and effort into learning how to use a tool like Macro media Flash to create animations. I always go for what I think will bring me the most profit with the least amount of effort, and as a result, I generally wind up spending all of my time going further into ONLY my WYSIWYG HTML editor and my picture editor.
## What is a "WYSIWYG" (what you see is what you get) editor? ##
A WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor is what lets you get by with only rudimentary HTML understanding. Yes, having a decent-looking website does not necessitate knowing EVERYTHING about HTML. When you use a WYSIWYG editor, it translates what you're doing (for example, inserting an image) as a set of HTML tags with attributes and takes care of it for you... As a result, you receive exactly what you see on your screen. Instead of viewing a bunch of HTML code in text format, you'll largely see what will appear in your browser after your website is live WHILE you're building it. I strongly advise you to use the most recent version of Dreamweaver, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest HTML editors. Dreamweaver includes a user-friendly interface, and a built-in FTP client, and is designed to be versatile enough for both coders and ordinary amateur webmasters.
## What is image editing? What am I supposed to do with that? ##
Let's be honest: if you want to construct a professional *appearing* website, you'll need to be able to create some basic, decent-looking graphics. There are several graphics issues that can actually get the job done, but I prefer Adobe Photoshop for power and versatility. Adobe Photoshop takes some time to get used to, but it's well worth it in the end. I've ended up using my Photoshop skills to create not just graphics for a variety of websites, but also portraits, business cards, flyers, and other internet advertisements such as banners. In fact, aside from animation, I've used it for everything... However, it also includes Adobe Image ready, which is excellent for animation. This software is incredible, and if you're going to learn ANY image editing software, I recommend starting with Photoshop due to its versatility!
## Converting those sales leads you've been accumulating into purchases! ##
It's generally a good idea to start employing lead management services once you've made a few sales. I strongly advise using autoresponders for this purpose. Autoresponders are simply a newsletter sign-up that allows you to choose what you want to send each lead once a set period of time has passed. Consider the case where someone comes to your website, and you give them a free newsletter. If you're selling an e-book on a very difficult subject, you may start by offering them merely the most fundamental notions to pique their interest. Slowly but steadily, you may convert those people who may have abandoned your site and never returned into substantial money!
